Bernardo O'Higgins lived from August 20, 1776 to October 1842. He was a South American revolutionary leader and first Chilean head of state, who commanded the military forces that won independence from Spain. He is considered one of the founding fathers of Chile. He was a close friend of José de San Martín who helped him to liberate Chile and they both made an expedition to liberate Peru. O'Higgins served as head of State and Government of Chile from 1818 to 1823, he auto-exiled to Peru where he died. The Chilean people didn't liked that the money to liberate Peru was paid by them, and Chile even became indebted.
