Batting average (abbreviated BA) is a baseball statistic that tracks how often a batter gets a hit. Its formula is

  • H is Hits
  • AB is At bats

Although batting average is a traditionally popular statistic, modern sabermetricians prefer other metrics, such as on-base percentage.
