Barbara Reich Freiberg (born November 18, 1948) is a Republican incoming District 70 state representative from her native Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In the general election held on November 16, 2019, Freiburg defeated her Democratic opponent, Belinda Davis, 8,750 votes (53 percent) to 7,891 (47 percent).[1] On January 13, 2020, she will succeed another House Republican, the term-limited Steve Carter, who ran unsuccessfully for the state Senate in the October 12, 2019, primary election.

In order to assume the legislative post, Freiberg will resign from her District 12 seat on the Baton Rouge Metro Council, to which she was handily elected on December 10, 2016.[2]

A graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baton Rouge and Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, at which she acquired her education credentials. She also received a Master of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she has been a high school teacher at Glen Oaks, Lee High, and the LSU Lab School. She is a former K-12 grades administrator for the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. In 2011, she was elected to the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board, of which she has served as board president.[3]

Freiberg is active in such groups as the Greater Baton Rouge Executive Women in Golf, the Children's Coalition, the Academic Distinction Foundation, Rotary International, and the Foundation for East Baton Rouge Parish Schools.[3] She and her husband, Mickey Stacy Freiberg, have two grown children and a grandchild.[2]
