The B-25 Mitchell was an American medium bomber used in both theaters in World War II. Named after General Billy Mitchell, it is the only plane in the American military to be named after an individual. The plane was a highly devastating bomber and the design was also used to make photo recon planes. Its most famous mission was the Doolittle Raid of April 1942.
On July 28, 1945, a B-25 crashed into the Empire State Building, killing 14 people.[1]
