Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna in 1914.
Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna (1901-1918) was the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra Fedorovna.

After the 1917 Russian Revolution, Nicholas abdicated and the imperial family was taken to Siberia. The Bolshevik leaders in Moscow debated what to do with the Romanovs. While Leon Troksky argued for a trial, Yakov Sverdlov, Vladimir Lenin's most trusted associate, arranged for the assassination of the entire family. They were killed in July 17, 1918 at Yekaterinburg, Siberia. Yekaterinburg was for a time renamed Sverdlovsk in Sverdlov's honor.

In the 1920s, Anna Anderson posed as an Anastasia who somehow survived the 1918 massacre. Anastasia's fate has been the subject of speculation and historical fiction. Her remains were discovered in 2007.
