Abel was the second son born to Adam and Eve. He was a keeper of sheep and made offerings to the Lord from the fatted portions of the firstborn of his flocks. He was killed by his older brother Cain because Abel's offerings were accepted and his were not. Abel was the first person to be murdered in the Bible. The story is found in the Book of Genesis. (Gen 4:2 - 4:8)

In the Gospel of Matthew Jesus said that Abel was righteous (Matt 23:35) as did the writer of the Book of Hebrews (Heb 11:4)
