A Civic Biology[1] was an American textbook by George William Hunter published by the American Book Company in 1914.
It was the textbook used in the school in Dayton, Tennessee, in 1925 when teacher John Scopes was charged with teaching the evolution of mankind in the famous "Scopes Trial".
As well as standard biological information, the book endorsed eugenics and supported a racist view of humanity.
In the revised edition released in 1926, the publishers removed any mention of the word "evolution" from it, because of the anti-evolution movement.[2]
