Jeffrey Wayne Karstens is a right handed pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates after spending his first two years with the New York Yankees. He attended Grossmont Junior College before transferring to Texas Tech University. In his rookie season in 2006 with the Yankees, he finished with two wins and an ERA of 3.80 in eight starts. In 2007, he had a chance to be a starter, with the injury to former Yankees starting pitcher Carl Pavano, but he broke his right fibula on April 28 when he was struck by a line drive.[1] After recovering, he made his next start on August 2, 2007.
