I do not remember for sure (so no source) but IIRC this image comes from a western US slave. The western states were known to be more brutal in an ever more state of seeking efficiency where the south was governed by strong traditions and expectations that kept a certain social order. Would be good to point out that the picture may or may not be related to southern slavery in the "American Civil War" article. Richard 19:36, 26 March 2007 (EDT)
