Zscout370: alright, but I am too new to move

We should probably mention something about the leader, and about the U.S. Congressional resolution which disparages him. We ourselves, should perhaps not be so disparaging. --Ed Poor Talk 23:17, 6 July 2007 (EDT)
:I personally would like an article to be made about Lukashenko. The resolution I linked was from the US Embassy in London, which links the official decree Bush 43 used to travel ban Lukashenko. Zscout370 23:18, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

::I would personally like to see you write an article about him! :-) --Ed Poor Talk 23:31, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

:::Started it at Lukashenko. Zscout370 23:40, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

::Good enough to publish, I'd say. Just change the word "labelled", it makes him sound like a ketchup bottle. --Ed Poor Talk 23:44, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

:::Because I am a new user, I cannot move the article just quite yet. You can do it for me, if you wish. Zscout370 23:49, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

Zscout370: labelled --> admonished

Alexander Lukashenko is the leader of Belarus since 1994. During his tenure, he has been admonished by the United States, European Union and other organizations for suppressing democracy and trying to re-instill Soviet practices on the country. Due to unfair election practices, such as accusations of squashing free press and election rigging, Lukashenko was issued travel bans by the United States and the EU.

Lukashenko was born in Kopys, a city in the Vitebsk oblast in 1954. After high school, Lukashenko graduated from Mogilev State University and the Belarusian Agricultural Academy and served time with the Soviet Frontier (Border) Guards.

Zscout370: aded URL to US Embassy Press release

Belarus is a country in Eastern Europe and former member of the USSR. The capital of Belarus is Minsk. The leader of the country is the dictatorial Alexander Lukashenko, who is subject to United States and European Union travel bans.

Name
Belarus is often incorrectly called "Belorussia" or "Byelorussia", and some claim that this means "White Russia". This is incorrect which one can see by looking at the Russian words for the countries of Belarus and Russia: Белоруссия and Россия (Belorussija and Rossija), respectively. The name "Belarus" is taken from ancient "Rus'", which is also known in English as "Ruthenia". Therefore, Belarus means "White Ruthenia", rather than "White Russia".
