Primates is an order of mammals which share ape-like characteristics. Several hundred species belong to the order.

They are often put into two large groups: the suborder Strepsirrhini, which include lemurs, tarsiers, and lorises; and the suborder Haplorrhini, which include the small tarsiers; the New World monkeys (spider and howler monkeys); Old World monkeys (languars and baboons); and the Apes, which, as formulated by most biologists and anthropologists, include the lesser apes (gibbons) and greater apes (gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans).

Scientists who believe in evolution also claim that it includes humans, placing us with the family that includes the great apes, a theory rejected by creationists.
He displayed tolerance towards all religions and helped erect shrines to Hinduism and Jainism, another religion of India. He elevated the status of women. In Buddhism women could become monks. He also promoted trade with the expanding Roman empire to his West, and the growing Han dynasty in China to his East. After Ashoka died, the empire fell into civil war, and became vulnerable to outside invaders, such as the Bactrian Greeks in the second century B.C. and the Buddhist Kushan in 100 B.C. A council of Buddhist monks was convened under Kanishka to regulate Buddhism, and the result was Mahayana Buddhism.

Ashoka is considered to be one of the greatest rulers in world history. Writer H.G. Wells said about Ashoka, "In the history of the world there have been thousands of kings and emperors who called themselves 'their highnesses,' 'their majesties,' and 'their exalted majesties' and so on. They shone for a brief moment, and as quickly disappeared. But Ashoka shines and shines brightly like a bright star, even unto this day."

Perhaps the most important event in the history of Buddhism was the conversion of Ashoka Mauryan, the Indian emperor (269-232 B.C.). He chanced to meet Nigrodha, a Buddhist monk, who convinced him to devote his life to peace. Ashoka caused thousands of rock pillars to be erected, engraved with the teachings of Buddha. This was the first time Buddhist teachings were recorded.
There are two major types of surface mines; these are contour mines and open pit mines.

: Contour mining is conducted on hillsides where layers of the desired material are accessible. The overburden (material on top) is removed and the wanted material mined, then the overburden material is replaced.

: Open pit mining is simply the excavation of the overburden, and removal of the wanted material. The result is a large open pit. In some parts of the world, including the United Kingdom, this method is known as open cast mining.

In recent times the mining companies are required to replace excess materials and replant vegetation so little trace of the mining remains.

One material which is surface mined is coal.

5.I think that political cartoons are an extremely important part of history. They stick with you more than words. They allow people to express their opinions in a way that grasps the reader without them feeling like they’re trying to be persuaded. One of the most famous and influential political cartoon is Uncle Sam’s ‘I want you’ picture. This is still extremely popular today.

: Superb.

6.Other than obviously Edison, Rockefeller made oil a big business and is still a hot topic today in the current election.

: Nice tie-in to the current election!

7.The cartoon depicts Uncle Sam on a horse sinking in the quicksand of gold. The cartoonist puts prosperity far away where Sam is trying to go, but has to get past all the bimetallism and controversy to get there. The cartoonist obviously does not see the use of gold as a way to success and prosperity.

: Good.

H3. Debate: Do you support a "spoils system" or a "civil service system"?
Although nothing can be 100% perfect because we’re only human, I think that a civil service system would probably work better than the spoils system. If a president wins the election and puts all the men in office that agree with his point of view, than he has more power. Power is never good in human hands.

: Excellent point!

H4. No, I do not support unions. In a union, it doesn’t matter how hard you work or how much you accomplish, unions just say that you aren’t being paid enough for it. This discourages working hard to earn your raise because you can be lazy and still get paid well for it.

: Superb again! Will also use as a model answer.

H5. My view of his speech was that it was extremely well written, but contained ideas that are not what America needs. He was speaking what Americans wanted to hear and on his own passion. It sounded good, but needed to be useful and applicable to actually be good.

: Excellent.

: Terrific answers. Score: 99/100. Congratulations!--Aschlafly 18:57, 1 November 2008 (EDT)
