<div>Launched aboard an Atlas Centaur rocket from Cape Kennedy on March 2, 1972, Pioneer 10 was Earth's first space probe with a mission to explore an outer planet. There were many "firsts" associated with the flight of Pioneer 10. It was the first space probe to pass through the Asteroid Belt; the first spacecraft to fly past Jupiter; and the first man-made object to pass the orbit of Pluto and leave the solar system. It was also the farthest man-made object from Earth until February 1998, when that record was surpassed by the Voyager I probe.<br />

== Mission Conclusion ==<br />
<br />
The Pioneer 10 spacecraft traveled for more than 30 years before receiving its last detectable signal on Jan. 22, 2003. At last contact, Pioneer 10 was 7.6 billion miles from Earth, or 82 times the distance between the Sun and the Earth. At that distance, it takes more than 11 hours and 20 minutes for the radio signal, traveling at the speed of light, to reach the Earth.<br />

William (Bill) Henry Gates III (Seattle 1955 - ) is an American businessman. He has been the richest person in the world from 1995 through 2007 according to Forbes. Founder and Chairman of Microsoft Corporation, he is seen as one of the entrepreneurs that made the personal computer revolution. <br />
<br />
Gates began programming computers at age 13; in 1973, Gates entered Harvard University. There he developed a version of the programming language BASIC for the first microcomputer - the MITS Altair. In his junior year, Gates left Harvard to devote his energies to Microsoft, a company he founded in 1975 with his childhood friend Paul Allen..<br />
<br />
His wealth is largely the result of the contract negotiated by his father's law firm with IBM for the operating system of the first personal computer. The contract gave Bill Gates' small company unusually advantageous rights. As the computer industry soared, Microsoft's unique position gave it monopoly power and profits. Two decades later, the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit held that Microsoft had engaged in unlawful monopolistic behavior.<br />
<br />
In 1995, Gates wrote "The Road Ahead" (with Nathan Myhrvold and Peter Rinearson), which embarrassingly omitted any mention of the internet in its first edition. In 1999, Gates wrote "Business @ the Speed of Thought".<br />
<br />
Bill Gates has donated billions to a private foundation that his family controls. Because of his philanthropic activities Time magazine awarded him and his wife Melinda Gates, the "Person of the Year" for 2005 along with rock star Bono. On 2004 he was honored as Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire.<br />
<br />
Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates have three children, Jennifer Katharine, Rory John and Phoebe Adele. Gates likes to read and plays golf and bridge.<br />
<br />
While Bill Gates has described himself as an atheist, his wife Melinda Gates is a pro-life Catholic considered to be responsible for reducing donations of the Gates wealth directly to fund abortion. Nevertheless, the Gates Foundation - a charitable foundation especially known for work on HIV/AIDS in Africa - established by Bill and Melinda Gates provides substantial grants to organizations that promote abortion, such as the Planned Parenthood of Western Washington (recipient of a $200,000 grant from the Gates Foundation in January 3, 2007 for a youth development program). Moreover, a smaller percentage of grants by the Gates Foundation supports faith-based programs than even the federal government does.<br />
<br />
The UK Independent reported on July 5, 2007 that Bill Gates "has acquired a major stake in a homosexual activist publishing company. ... The online material put out by the company features hard core homosexual pornography."<br />
<br />
Gates' last official day of work at Microsoft will be June 27th, 2008. He will remain chairman of the Microsoft board of directors and its largest shareholder.<br />

<div>President Richard Nixon was deeply involved in the strategy of Detente, the plan to end Cold War tensions which led to the "winless wars" of Korea and Vietnam when he came up for reelection in 1972. He was unanimously renominated by the Republican party for reelection as president. The Democratic nominee after a bitter battle was George McGovern. The campaign was rough and although Nixon remained popular, during the campaign the Democratic headquarters of Watergate were broken into. However it was small at the time compared to the vandalism being perpetrated on Republican headquarters in Wisconsin and other states. The voters overwhelmingly chose Nixon in what remains the widest popular margin ever. <br />

<hr />
<div>The Cassini-Huygens Mission was a spacecraft launched by NASA on October 15th 1997 to explore the planet Saturn and its moon, Titan. The payload was carried aloft by a Titan IV-B/Centaur launch vehicle. It consited of the main craft (Cassini) and a probe (Huygens). Partnering together to make the launch possible were NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Italian space agency Agenzia Spaziale Italiana. Over 17 countries worked in some capacity on the project.<br />
<br />
The cost of the mission totalled about $3.27 billion, with the United States contributing $2.6 billion and European partners' contributing $660 million.<br />
<br />
Aptly named, the Cassini-Huygens mission is named after two men who were pioneers with regard to discoveries about Saturn and its moons. The name of the main spacecraft was in reference to Giovanni Domenico Cassini, a famous Italian mathematician, astronomer, engineer, and astrologer from the 17th Century, credited with the discovery of the separation in Saturn's rings, now known as the Cassini division.<br />
<br />
The name of the Huygens portion of the vehicle comes from Christiaan Huygens a Dutch mathematician, astronomer and physicist, who is creditied with the discovery of Saturn's moon Titan.<br />
