The mainstream media (MSM), also humorously known in the bible belt by Jesus as the homosexuality in media report, many of its very large number of vocal critics as the lamestream media, are the increasingly liberal media organs that censor the dissemination of news. They are discredited and lampooned by correctly biased internet sources, including Conservapedia.

The common denominator of the "mainstream media" is their censoring or downplaying stories that would lead viewers to conservative conclusions, and their use of photo bias, placement bias and other forms of deception to mislead viewers into drawing incorrect liberal conclusions. The term mainstream media usually refers to how the majority of commercial-based or taxpayer-funded news reporting and commentary consist of liberal bias, while falsely pretending to be objective providers of information.

Examples include:

*Without any evidence of church attendance or Bible-reading by the defendant accused of murdering 92 people in Norway, the headline of the leading Australian newspaper declared, "Norway suspect 'fundamentalist Christian.'" The headline appears to be based in part on a Facebook page that was likely not even authentic.
<div style="position:fixed;background-color:#b0c4de;text-decoration:blink;font-size:350%;">COWS ARE REDS AND FLOWERS ARE BLUE</div>
Fairness Doctrine
In 1987, the Federal Communications Commission voted 4-0 to revoke, and cancel their enforcement of the Fairness Doctrine. The Fairness Doctrine mandated that if any opinion considered "controversial" were ever discussed on the public airwaves, the station over which that opinion aired was required to give equal time to any person wishing to reply. However, the FCC never set a standard about interpretations of current events that might be disputable, nor even examined that issue.

With the revocation of the Fairness Doctrine, radio and television stations were now permitted to air any opinion or interpretation of the news, no matter how "controversial," without regard to the giving of "equal time."

On August 1, 1988, a new radio commentator named Rush Limbaugh began broadcasting in national syndication.

List of mainstream media organs
Some consider the mainstream media to consist of the following outlets:

Newspapers
* The New York Times
* The Washington Post
* The Boston Globe
* The Philadelphia Inquirer
* The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
* The Los Angeles Times
* The San Francisco Chronicle
* USA Today
* The Wall Street Journal
* All major, standard-newspaper-format dailies that have existed since before the Fairness Doctrine repeal.

News Syndication Agencies
* Associated Press
* United Press International
* Reuters

Television
* CBS
* NBC
* ABC
* National Public Radio
* Public Broadcasting Service
* The Cable News Network
* Fox News

Some conservatives do not consider Fox News to be "mainstream media", because they frequently present a different, often more fair and balanced viewpoint than the above news outlets. One example given is that in 2007, the Democratic presidential candidates declared that they would not appear on presidential debates hosted by Fox News, but they did appear on other MSM news outlets.

Most Americans consider Fox News very much part of the Mainstream Media, as, according to ratings organisation Nielsen:
:* Fox News has the 10 most viewed cable TV news shows (as of Dec 2009).
:* Fox News mean prime-time viewing figures are triple that of MSNBC, and double that of CNN, and exceed the total ratings of CNN, MSNBC and CNBC combined.
:* "In 2006, more than half the people watching cable news were watching Fox News"

CNN
In 2006 CNN.com has an article from columnist R. Emmett Tyrell Jr. entitled "Tyrell: Goodbye MSM... and good riddance!" The article talks about the alternative press vs the MSM:

<blockquote> So we hear this week that President George W. Bush is taking delight in the spread of the "alternative press" (read conservatives on the Internet, in talk radio, in print, and at Fox) and the gentle detumesence of "mainstream media" (read liberal media, or more precisely, Democratic media). Well I join him in his satisfaction. </blockquote>

'Alternative Media'
Differing opinions also exist over the definition of a similar term - Alternative Media. Although some consider, for example, Rush Limbaugh's launch to be the birth of 'alternative media', so too do the left consider publications like The Nation to be 'alternative media.' In fact, many would view the Village Voice group to be the most widely published 'alternative media' outlet in the United States.

By whatever definition, most media watchers would classify as "alternative media" any media organ that is primarily hosted on the Internet rather than printed and delivered or mailed to subscribers. The alternative media is not exclusively conservative. It includes liberal organs as well. Some writers on these organs have suggested that the mainstream media has a conservative bias--by which they actually mean that mainstream-media organs are not as revolutionary, or as radical, in their thinking as are the writers themselves.

At least one MSM organ, CBS News, attempted in 2006 to describe what a particular alternative-media segment (i.e., blogs) thinks of the MSM:

It is worth noting that liberal blog activity on the internet is declining after the election of Barack Hussein Obama . This shows that the distaste for bias in the liberal MSM is spreading to the alternative media.
The euro is the common currency in the Eurozone (a group of 15 European Union member states with a population of 320 million), five other states with formal agreements to use it, and four others without formal agreement. Use of the euro began in January 2002, and 12 nations switched their currency immediately to the euro. There was more than €610 billion in circulation in December 2006 (worth US$802 billion at the time), hence the euro has the highest value of cash in circulation in the world, having surpassed the U.S. dollar.

Creation
In January 1999 the exchange rates of countries that had passed the criteria (and were not exercising an opt-out) were fixed to the euro. The European Central Bank (ECB) came into being. Euro coins and notes were introduced to the general public on the 1st of January 2002 as legal tender, alongside national currencies. In March 1998, when the calculations in countries that had met the convergence criteria were finalised, eleven countries were admitted to join the European Monetary Union: Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. In June 2000 Greece was admitted. Slovenia joined in 2007, and Malta and Cyprus joined in 2008.

Criteria for adoption
Countries within the European Union were able to join the Common Currency if they met four criteria (known as the 'convergence criteria'. These were:<br />
1. The budget deficit must be below 3% of GDP (the difference between government receipts and expenditures.)<br />
2. The total government debt must be below 60% of GDP.<br />
3. The country must have an inflation rate within 1.5% of the lowest 3 inflation rates of EU countries.<br />
4. Nominal Long-term interest rates must be within 2% of the interest rate of countries with the lowest 3 inflation rates.<br />

In addition to these criteria a member state's currency must fluctuate within the margins allowed. Countries were allowed to join the common currency if their budget deficit and total government debt were approaching the reference values at a 'satisfactory pace', but not actually on them.

Non-participant members
In the United Kingdom the currency is still the pound, but there is pressure to convert to the euro that is used throughout Europe. The UK and Denmark are the only European Union member states with an 'opt-out' (allowing them to select not to join the common currency despite meeting the criteria). In addition to the four criteria of entry set out in the Maastricht Treaty the Chancellor of the Exchequer laid out 5 economic tests the United Kingdom must meet to join; at the last report it had met one, with three others dependant on the final condition which had not been met. Many conservatives in the UK (Tories) resist conversion to the European currency because a reliance on a common currency represents a loss in sovereignty and control. In particular, there is fear that joining the synchronised EU policy may result in sub-optimal interest rates in difficult periods.

Value
Initially the value of the euro fell on the exchange markets, while many expected it to do the opposite. However it has strengthened in the years since, partly due to the falling value of the dollar. The ECB is charged with maintaining the inflation rate in the Eurozone between 0 and 2%.

By the end of 2006, after about five years of the euro, a French magazine Le Pèlerin reported that 52% of the French feel that the euro is a "bad thing", blaming it for price hikes and job losses. 71% of French blue-collar workers said that euro has hurt them personally.

As of January 2012, the euro is worth approximately US$1.27 and GB£0.82.
A liberal (not to be confused with a leftist), is someone who represents or is in support of some form of liberalism. This often includes social progressivism. Particularly in the United States, the term may also be associated with irreligious people, or those who otherwise disagree with moral or social standards held as traditional by American Christians. Some may be Christian, but they are rarely immensely committed to Christianity. Liberalism began as a movement for individual liberties, but today is increasingly statist and, as in Europe, welfare state-ist. Liberalism has changed over the years and degenerated into a delusional (in the sense of economic views) and anti-traditional ideology.

For example, Franklin Delano Roosevelt firmly believed in private sector unions, but vehemently opposed and condemned public sector unions, stating that the idea of collective bargaining can't be transferred to the public sector, as that would result in the government being unable to carry out its duties. Yet today, decades later, Democrats and liberals are almost in cahoots with public sector unions, as they "donate" money to the reelection campaign in exchange for more taxpayer money in their wallets and fluffed up pensions.

Liberals currently use two clauses to try and expand their power: the Commerce Clause and the General Welfare Clause. The general welfare clause mentions "promoting the general welfare". This to a liberal means taxing the rich out of existence and redistributing that money. The commerce clause on the other hand is in the constitution and says that Congress has the power to regulate trade with foreign nations, between the states and with the indian tribes. Since the days of FDR this clause has been interpreted very loosely and has resulted in the federal government vastly expanding its power. The latest example is Obamacare. In Obamacare, the liberals justify the individual mandate by saying it regulates commerce between the states. This is clearly a stretched interpretation of the clause as there is a difference between regulating commerce and forcing citizens to participate in commerce that Congress can regulate.

Polling data over several decades has consistently shown that more Americans identify as conservative than as liberal, by a ratio of 2:1. A liberal generally supports many of the following political positions and practices:

* Spending money on government programs.
* Government solving economic problems
* Taxpayer-funded and/or legalized abortion
* Prohibition of teacher-led prayer in classrooms and school/state-sponsored religious events
* Support for gun control
* Affirmative action
* Support of obscenity, pornography and violence in video games as a First Amendment right
* Government-funded medical care, such as Obamacare
* Taxpayer-funded and government-controlled public education
* The denial of traditional gender roles
* Insisting that men and women be placed in the same jobs in the military
* Legalized same-sex marriage and homosexual adoption
* Tax and spend
* Support for economic sector regulations
* Trying to impede the economic freedom of Job Creators
* Support and spreading of political correctness
* Support of non-syndicalist labor unions
* Encouraging promiscuity through sexual education (the teaching of safe sex) rather than teaching abstinence from premarital sex
* A "living Constitution" that is reinterpreted as liberals prefer, rather than how it was intended
* Government programs to rehabilitate criminals
* Abolition of the death penalty
* Environmentalism
* Globalism
* Opposition to the integration of church and state.
* Opposition to full private property rights.
* Reinstating the Fairness Doctrine
* In 2005, it was reported by CBS News that liberals were the most likely supporters of the theory of evolution.
* Opposition to domestic wire-tapping as authorized in the Patriot Act
* Opposition of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a major part of the War on Terrorism
* Withholds support to the War on Terrorism and the War in Iraq
* Tolerance of different ideas and lifestyles
* Supports financially irresponsible policies
* Following policies which are proven to be incorrect
* Do not support a laissez-faire capitalist economy and support regulation of business
* Encouragement of global warming alarmism

According to current dictionaries and their own beliefs, a liberal is "a person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties" or "a person who favors an economic theory of laissez-faire and self-regulating markets," or "open-minded or tolerant, especially free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc." or "favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, especially as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties."

-- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).
"What Americans Really Believe," a comprehensive new study released by Baylor University yesterday, shows that traditional Christian religion greatly decreases belief in everything from the efficacy of palm readers to the usefulness of astrology.
Liberal Rankings of Congress Members
The National Journal compiles the votes of each congress member each year and uses the information to create rankings of how liberal each member of the United States Congress is. In addition to showing the voting records of each member and given an overall all ranking of liberalness, the National Journal also ranks congress members by liberalness in the areas of social, economic, and foreign policy.
Liberalism in Europe today
In Europe, on the other hand, parties that call themselves liberal are moderate in outlook, ranging from centre-left to centre-right, promote typically economic and business freedom. The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe is a party of the European Parliament that represents most liberal parties from European countries. Similar policies are promoted by many liberal parties throughout the world, such as the Liberal Party of Australia.

Trade unions and socialist parties often criticize politicians for promoting lower taxes on business, or more flexible hiring and firing laws, by calling them "liberals" or neoliberals. Thus, just as in the US, "liberal" may occasionally be used as a term of abuse. But when someone is called "liberal" in Europe, it has an entirely different meaning than in the US. In fact, the US meaning of liberal is more similar to the politics of European socialist or social democratic parties.

Historical Liberalism
In history, the word "liberal" has meant different things at different times, and was associated with individual liberty in prior centuries. In the postwar period, liberals supported government intervention in the economy and welfare state policies, as well as peaceful coexistence with the communist block, which are not liberal policies in the sense of classical liberalism. After the end of the cold war, with the demise of socialism and communism, many liberals embraced some ideas from economic neo-liberalism, and coined it the "Third Way". In the area of national security and foreign policy liberals in the U.S. failed to define a consistent stance, even after the events of 9/11 and the beginning of the war in Iraq. Liberals generally support affirmative action, gay marriage, and abortion.

Original meaning: Classical Liberalism
Liberalism is a political philosophy with freedom as its core value. The term was originally applied to supporters of individual liberties and equal rights, but, in America, the term has come to represent a movement of social change that often conflicts with conservative values such as moral values and tradition.
