Trademark (symbolized by "™") is a word, phrase, symbol or design, or a combination of words, phrases, symbols or designs, used by a company to identify and distinguish the source of its goods from other company's goods.

It is not required to register a trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (US PTO), but registration with the "Principal Register" does provide several advantages:

* constructive notice to the public of the claim of ownership of the mark;
* a legal presumption of the registrant's ownership of the mark and exclusive right to the use the mark nationwide in connection with the goods and/or services listed in the registration;
* the ability to file a lawsuit in federal court to enforce the mark;
* the use of the registration with the USPTO to register in foreign countries; and
* the ability to file registration with the U.S. Customs Service to prevent importation of infringing foreign goods.

One may use the federal registration symbol "®" only after the USPTO actually registers a mark, and not while an application is pending. Also, you may use the registration symbol with the mark only on or in connection with the goods and/or services listed in the federal trademark registration.

Requirements for Registration
To qualify to register on the Principal Register, a mark must be "inherently distinctive." A mark qualifies as "inherently distinctive" if it is fanciful, arbitrary, or suggestive (requiring some imagination to see the connection between the mark and product or service). If the mark is merely descriptive, then there must be extensive use that develops a significant level of market awareness, also known as "secondary meaning."

Manda is a Japanese giant monster, or daikaiju, created and owned by the Japanese company Toho. Manda is a giant Asian Dragon, and is either a dark gold or gray color. It is the god/defender of the ancient civilization of Mu, and appears in three films: Atragon, Destroy All Monsters, and Godzilla: Final Wars. Manda's history began when the Mu Empire declared war on the world, attacking several American and Japanese submarines. Japan, meanwhile, released a new weapon, the super tri-phibian vessel Atragon. Atragon, originally built to combat America during WWII, proved more than a match for the Mu ships, and invaded the under-water kingdom. In a last ditch effort, the Mu released Manda to attack Atragon. Manda had experiance attacking submarines, but Atragon electrified her hull, forcing Manda to release the ship. Atragon then froze Manda with her secret weapon, the Absolute Zero Cannon. Atragon returned to Japan, while Manda, forgotten, sank to the bottom of the ocean. But Manda was not dead. When the UN established Monster Island in the 60's, Manda was among the island's inmates, beside Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan. In 1999, when the Killaks took over the island, Manda was released on London as part of the alien's plan to create panic, then was the third monster to appear in Tokyo, behind Rodan and Godzilla. After the monsters were rested from Killak control, Manda was among the monsters who attacked the Killak HQ. When King Ghidorah appeared, Manda did not help its allies by combating the space demon. While this is often seen as cowardice, Manda probably did not want to fight a monster who could breathe lighting, which was fatal to the monster. After the Killak defeat, Manda was amoung the monsters who returned to Monster Island, and is seen there at the end of Destroy All Monsters,as well as Godzilla's Revenge and Terror of Mechagodzilla. In the new time line created for Godzilla:Final Wars, Manda and Godzilla are amoung the few monsters not killed by the Earth Defense Forces. After an attack by the monster on Normandy, the EDF sent Gotnego, an updated version of Atragon, to destroy Manda. The two fight under water, and Gotengo uses missiles to open a volcanic vent, causeing the ships hull to heat up and force Manda to release the Gotengo. Manda tries to make another run on Gotengo, but the ship uses the absolute zero cannon to freeze the creature, allowing Gotengo to use her drill to destroy Manda once and for all. It has been speculated that Manda was under the control of the Xillians, like every monster besides Godzilla and Mothra. This is probably not true, as all of the other monsters attacked at the same time, and Manda is not mentioned as having any M base in its blood, while Ebirah, Gigan,and Anguirus, as well as all the other monsters did, and M base was essential to the monster's being controlled by the Xillians.

Having the abortion increases her risk of breast cancer. There's no denying it, much as liberals try. Study our abortion entry if you really want further explanation. There's no need for me to repeat that entry here. Thanks and Godspeed.--Aschlafly 12:54, 3 February 2008 (EST)
::::: I have been watching this discussion with increasing dismay. Perhaps it would be easier, Andy, if I put it in story form for you.

::::: Let’s contemplate a story of two young women. We shall call one Mary and the other Jezebel. Now Mary has evil atheist parents and has been brought up in the absence of the Ten Commandments and without clear moral guidelines. Jezebel, on the other hand, is the daughter of committed Christians and knows right from wrong. In particular she practices abstinence and, accordingly is saving herself for her future husband. Mary, however, is wanton and, with no moral guidance, becomes pregnant to her slacker boyfriend Cory. Upon learning the news Cory immediately decamps for Canada. Due to her total lack of knowledge of God’s wishes, Mary has an abortion.
::::: Which of the two young women has a greater risk of getting breast cancer?
:::::: In light of this discussion I guess that's what you might call ironic, isn't it? --CarolineMilton 00:04, 8 February 2008 (EST)

::::::: Your hypothetical has no bearing with respect to a woman choosing between having an abortion or carrying the pregnancy to birth. Factually, by the way, the woman who has the abortion has greater risk of breast cancer. As to "conservative denial," just suggest it here. No need for a special page for just one not-yet-made suggestion.--Aschlafly 00:10, 8 February 2008 (EST)

:::::::: On the contrary, my hypothetical was exactly on point. All you have been saying is, in effect, that child birth protects you against breast cancer. It was pointed out to you that the logical result of that was that abstinence causes breast cancer in the same way that abortion causes breast cancer (i.e. both prevent one from having a child). You seem determined to just ignore the logic. Fine. No doubt those reading this page will have no difficulty seeing that for what it is.

:::::::: You now appear to be making a new claim to the effect that the woman having the abortion has a higher risk than the abstinent woman.

:::::::: Do you have a reputable medical citation for that claim? --CarolineMilton 18:17, 10 February 2008 (EST)

::::::::: Caroline, the woman who chooses abortion over childbirth thereby increases her risk of breast cancer. She should be told that before taking that risk. Yes, our entry on abortion has many citations for this. It is not even seriously disputed, except to advance the pro-abortion agenda.--Aschlafly 19:14, 10 February 2008 (EST)

:::::::::: OK then. Let's recap.

:::::::::: 1. You agree (although you seem utterly incapable of actually typing it) that in my example both Mary and Jezebel have the same breast cancer risk at the conclusion of the story.

:::::::::: 2. Any increased risk that you are claiming is related to whether or not a woman has a child rather than whether or not a woman has an abortion. A woman could, for example, have an abortion at the age of 20 and a child at the age of 21 and enjoy the very same risk level that she would have had if she had never had the abortion.

:::::::::: 3. Presumably you are of the view that any woman who is contemplating a life of abstinence should be warned of the breast cancer risk associated with that lifestyle.

:::::::::: I'm glad we seem to have sorted all of that out. --CarolineMilton 20:29, 10 February 2008 (EST)

::::::::::: The only thing you've "sorted" out is your clinging to liberal denial. Abortion increases the risk of breast cancer for more than one reason, and abstinence is irrelevant to that.--Aschlafly 10:03, 13 February 2008 (EST)
So, I'm wondering why my change to #9 was reverted. Seems to me that liberals don't deny that the media is biased, they just deny that it is biased in their favor. I don't have a huge problem with the difference, I'm just wondering as to the rationale.--RossC 13:16, 9 February 2008 (EST)

: It's a close call, but I agree with the reversion though I didn't do it. Liberals generally do deny media bias, period. They only make arguments of conservative bias in response to observations of liberal bias.

: Moreover, "liberal media bias" is a bit redundant, as virtually all of the media has a liberal bias, It's intrinsic to that profession, with the media's reliance on deception (to exaggerate and sell the news), constant travel (which is the antithesis of family life), dependence on obscenity and allusions to obscenity, its political correctness, and its obsession with racial imagery.--Aschlafly 23:01, 9 February 2008 (EST)
'Hollywood Values'
The part about Wikipedia 'not having an entry on Hollywood Values', should really be removed, for the very simple reason that this phrase means different things to different people. Simply Googling the phrase gives many different meanings. To some, 'Hollywood values' means exactly what Conservapedia says it means. To others, it is summarised as, 'Save a tree, kill a baby. Ban cigarettes, legalize pot. Screw the Iraqi’s, save Darfur. McCarthy is bad, Castro is good. Bush is Hitler, Che is a hero. Save the planet, live in a mansion.' To still others, it means being very egotistical, not very well grounded in reality, and not having a lot of common sense. To yet others, it's all about doing anything at all, as long as you're paid enough. And, by far, that is not a complete list of the various different things this phrase actually means to various different people. As such, I would not be too surprised if the reason Wikipedia doesn't have an entry is simply because it is far too difficult to accurately define.
Oh, and, yes, I will also make this point on the talk page of the 'Hollywood Values' article. Urushnor 14:44, 13 February 2008 (EST)
Things Changed
Things changed from Contest 4's:

Increased the gap between quality and short articles
Normal articles can easily be transformed into quality articles - and thus there should be some more gratification for doing so--IDuan 15:29, 3 February 2008 (EST)
: Agree. Great suggestion.--Aschlafly 14:28, 3 February 2008 (EST)

Decreased the gap between normal and entertainment anything
If someone spends the time to make a quality entertainment article, then they should still get close to the points of a quality regular article--IDuan 15:29, 3 February 2008 (EST)
: Can't say I agree with this. Entertainment entries are rarely educational or informative in any meaningful way. Frankly, most are a waste of time.--Aschlafly 14:28, 3 February 2008 (EST)
::While I agree that many entertainment articles are pointless - I think it's also tough to say that ALL are. Like for example - articles on sports teams are entertainment - but at the same time sports do have a big history, and it's certainly encyclopedic. That being said, an article on Britney Spears' hairstyles would obviously be less significant. Perhaps we should figure out how to distinguish these--IDuan 14:34, 3 February 2008 (EST)
::: I think the judges should have greater authority to take points away from uninformative entertainment entries.--Aschlafly 14:37, 3 February 2008 (EST)
::::agreed.--IDuan 14:47, 3 February 2008 (EST)

Increased the amount of points for a fully copied entry
Only by a bit though - given that you have to go through and wikilink anyway - creating that entry is essentially the same as a minor edit--IDuan 15:29, 3 February 2008 (EST)
: Agree. We reward improvements here. If well said by someone else and we have rights to copy (as in already paying for it as a government work), then let's use it and reward with points.--Aschlafly 14:28, 3 February 2008 (EST)

Increased the amount of points for a quality edit
It was getting almost the same amount of points as a short entry - when really, based on the description, it involved more work than a short entry--IDuan 15:29, 3 February 2008 (EST)
: Right.--Aschlafly 14:28, 3 February 2008 (EST)

Increased the amount of points for an image
You could at least two minor edits in the time that you could find one image appropriate to the article you have, and insert that image appropriately--IDuan 15:29, 3 February 2008 (EST)
: Right.--Aschlafly 14:28, 3 February 2008 (EST)
::I see the warning for copyright violations but nothing written out about what the penalties are. Maybe that should be tightened up before contest time? JoeManga 16:22, 8 February 2008 (EST)

Increased the amount of points for breaking news
This was only so I could increase the gap between a user who finds a breaking news article, and a sysop who adds that article to the main page--IDuan 15:29, 3 February 2008 (EST)
: Why do we want to increase that gap? I do agree that quality breaking news should be highly rewarded with points.--Aschlafly 14:28, 3 February 2008 (EST)
::I honestly don't really want to increase the gap - but in the last contest a user complained about the handicap of non-sysops, so I added it for him. But I'd befine if you reverted--IDuan 14:34, 3 February 2008 (EST)
Increased the amount of points for a template
Templates take a lot - they should probably be getting the same amount of points as an ordinary entry, but I thought that doing that would be too drastic of a change.--IDuan 15:29, 3 February 2008 (EST)
: Don't know. If you say so, it's OK.--Aschlafly 14:28, 3 February 2008 (EST)
Redefined what a template had to have
read:Userboxes don't count--IDuan 15:29, 3 February 2008 (EST)
: Right.--Aschlafly 14:28, 3 February 2008 (EST)

General comment: insightful entries should be rewarded more. Although subjective, these contests should create better incentives for the masterpieces, long or short, that deliver particularly good writing, insights, explanations, etc. Perhaps a "masterpiece" category that could be give special attention (and final decision) by judges after self-nomination of the best entries.--Aschlafly 14:28, 3 February 2008 (EST)
:Ok! How about this: each team nominates ... about 10 ... of it's best articles, and then the judges pick the top two among those - and those articles will be worth 100 points.--IDuan 14:34, 3 February 2008 (EST)

:: That's an interesting suggestion! I like it.--Aschlafly 14:37, 3 February 2008 (EST)
:::I agree that more complete articles deserve more points as they take much more effort. However, what makes an article better is quite subjective. Somebody may put a lot of effort into an article that doesn't make the top two and therefore doesn't get any reward from their extra work. I think this idea is trying to conflate two different things. Either have a competition where the quantity of a minimum standard is rewarded or have a competition for the best new article. Don't try and mix the two. I really think that the competitions try and cover too broad a range of things and that's why I think block and breaking news should be excluded. It becomes increasingly difficult to value contributions when they are for so many different things. This is why we are having yet another discussion about points. I think we are adult enough here to focus on expanding the number and quality of encyclopedic articles. Trying to include everything that can be done on the site only smacks of liberal multi-culturalism. BrianCo 18:04, 4 February 2008 (EST)
::::I'm only commenting on the first part of what you said as it relates more to what was going above - however I do think there is some conflict as to whether breaking news entries are rewarded - and I'll give that a section bellow. So, to your first part: The contest is not based on quantity or length - it's simply based on substance. If a user creates an article on a much needed topic - even if it's a stub, that user should get points for at least starting it out. If a user creates a 3 paragraph well cited article on a different topic - that user should also get points, and certainly more than the user who created the stub. You say that "Somebody may put a lot of effort into an article that doesn't make the top two and therefore doesn't get any reward for their extra work" - but, A) they are getting rewarded for their extra work - that's why more points are awarded to quality articles as opposed to stub, and B) the purpose of the contest is to improve the encyclopedia - as Andy has said, effort isn't what gets rewarded - value is rewarded.--IDuan 18:58, 4 February 2008 (EST)

Overall Comments
First of all I think we need to define the aim of the contest. I've said this before but an article remains in mainspace forever but a breaking news item is ephemeral even if it is archived. As main page items require sysop priveleges this gives an automatic advantage to admins - not fair. A sudden increase in normal articles on serves to increase the breadth and depth of the project permanently. What does a rush of breaking news during the period of the contest do? Make the front page even harder to navigate and distract from those items of genuine worth. The same goes for vandalism and blocking; should this be more rigorous just because there is a contest on? I certainly don't think so. I think the contest should focus only on articles, their creation, expansion and improvement.

*Images - I would give separate points for finding an image and incorporating it into an article, as the same image could be used several times.
*Templates - Although a userbox is a template of sorts, it only goes on a user's page there should be no issue about it getting points. Other templates can be time consuming to set up so maybe different points should be given to creating the template and actually adding it to a page.
*Very short articles - can be quick to create but a quality longer article that is researched and not copied from elsewhere actually requires more effort to construct.
*Normal and quality articles should have minimum requirements such as embolden subject, add categories, DEFAULTSORT, external references, internal wikilinks and quantity of text. Images and templates would be additional points.
*Failing to categorize, title according to Manual of Style, include a default sort (for humans) or have no wikilinks for any new article should have points deducted.
*A short entry should have at least one reference, one wikilink and one category. Even if it is copied then at least document where it came from.
*The current definition of a quality edit gets more points than a new short entry. This should be revised or the points reduced.
*A redirect should be meaningful, such as other name, abbreviation or accepted alternative spelling. A mis-spelling should not count.
*I suggest an INUSE template should be put on a page while it is being worked on if there are things to be done. Once the INUSE template is removed it is fair game for corrections, wikilinks, etc.
*All points claimed should be documented. Period! Vague summaries are simply not good enough.
*Maybe we need some rules concerning multiple minor edits to extant articles.

There should also be a reasonable period of time between contests. More time should be given for team selection and the teams should be closed once the contest starts. BrianCo 14:31, 3 February 2008 (EST)
::*To the images: the only problem with the finding/incorporating thing is we don't want to award users who upload an image and then don't do anything with it - however, I'll try and think of a way to work around this. Maybe we can add a bonus of 2 points to each article the image is added to if the image was uploaded by the user making the edits.
::::Right, I never meant that an unused image should be given credit.BrianCo
::*To the templates: There is a different point value for creating a template or adding it. Adding a template gets the same number of points as a minor edit
::*I agree with you on the short articles stuff - that's why I increased the gap between a quality article and a short article
::*Ok - I think the embolden subject and categories are fair for the normal and quality articles. We already have a requirement for external references and quantity of text for quality articles.
::*Hmm, for the short entries I would agree on everything except the reference - because pretty much a normal entry is everything a short entry is plus a reference
::::Disagree. We need to have our sources cited. So a short article like a definition should say where it came from even if it is sourced from a book.BrianCo
::*Agree on redirects
::*Definitely agree on documenting points - I tried setting up a mandatory system last time and it didn't work, this time maybe we can deduct points if its not followed.
::*I think that multiple minor edits to the same article are a judgment call really - although most the time extra points should not be rewarded.--IDuan 14:44, 3 February 2008 (EST)
Should Users get points for Blocks/Breaking News
Breaking News - Yes
Breaking News (In the news) is still worthy of scoring points during a contest. Consider the following benefits of the Breaking News:

*New articles are created
*Existing articles linked from the Breaking News are improved
*Liberalism is exposed and related to Conservapedia articles
*Conservative News is highlighted and related to Conservapedia articles

Any administrator who has added articles to the news section can vouch for these benefits. It takes time to create a good news article with appropriate links and pictures to Conservapedia articles. News articles should be awarded points in every contest because they benefit Conservapedia. --Crocoite 07:58, 5 February 2008 (EST)
:I used to think no on this, but I think now I'm more of a yes-man. The sysops advantage is present obviously - but at the same time the entire thing is a team effort - and to my recollection we've never had a "sysop vs. normal users" team. And it's not like users don't get any points - I mean at present (and I have just changed it - I had a big typo in earlier) the user can get 5 points for suggesting the article and the administrator can get 2 for putting the article up with links.--IDuan 16:27, 5 February 2008 (EST)
::If it's a team effort then let the original proposer have all the points so long as they supply marked-up text. Recently it hasn't been a team effort as only the top 7 contributors have counted. BrianCo 16:46, 5 February 2008 (EST)
:::Having the top 7 contributors count hasn't exactly been a recent thing - that's been in every contest I've been in. (Correction - it has been in every contest I've been in.)--IDuan 16:54, 5 February 2008 (EST)

Breaking News - No
I do not doubt the value of breaking news items. However, I am trying to suggest ways of making the competition fairer and easier to mark.

*Sysops have an advantage over ordinary editors in submitting breaking news items.
*New articles are being created in the competition anyway.
*An increase in breaking news articles just because of the competition only serves to devalue the important issues.

There are several things that may be of value but lumping everything together in the competition only muddies the waters. The competition should be run on an equal footing for all editors. BrianCo 14:54, 5 February 2008 (EST)

I also doubt the value of breaking news items. --Tim (CPAdmin1)talk Vote for President 22:10, 5 February 2008 (EST)
Possible Compromise
Ok - why don't we try just reducing the total value for breaking news points. Like let's say they're worth only 3 points, and if a non-sysop suggest them, that user would get 2 points and the sysop who puts it up would get 1.--IDuan 22:15, 5 February 2008 (EST)

Leonardo da Vinci (A.D. April 15, 1452-May 2, 1519) Italian architect, anatomist, sculptor, engineer, inventor, mathematician, musician, painter and humanist.

Born and raised in Vinci, Italy, Leonardo is famous for his beautiful painting of the Mona Lisa. But painting was by no means Leonardo’s greatest accomplishment. He imagined hundreds of devices that are still used today and were years ahead of their times, such as a bicycle, a submarine, a self-propelling car, a steam engine, a clock, and machine tools. Leonardo sketched these inventions and hundreds more in special notebooks, where he wrote his notes backwards so they could only be read using a mirror.

Another of Leonardo’s famous ideas could be found his sketches and ideas of “flying machines.” Although at the time the idea of flying seemed like a fantasy, little did Leonardo know his ideas would, hundred’s of years later, become a reality.
Lutefisk, pronounced loot-a-FISK, hearkens back to a day before refrigerators when being able to "put-up" food for storage was a necessity. The lye must be washed off thoroughly, using several changes of water before the fish is deemed reconstituted and fit for human consumption.
Even when the cod has been prepared correctly, when all precautions have been taken to ensure a good end product, younger members of the family tend to turn their noses up at such an "old country" dish.

Delete Notice

The phrase Hollywood values refers to the lack of morals and values in Hollywood culture, which has led to rampant drug use, extramarital sex, disease and death. 60% of Americans agree that "Hollywood's values are not in line with the rest of America and that the quality of movies has dimished in recent years."

Hollywood values can include a disrespect for:

* marriage
* patriotism
* religion
* accountability

Political correctness, at least publicly, is a central part of Hollywood values.

Hollywood values are deadly. Some examples include:
*Heath Ledger, 28, found dead in his Manhattan apartment. "Prescription sleeping pills and anti-anxiety pills were found in bottles in Ledger's bedroom and bathroom, and police have speculated the death was caused by an accidental drug overdose." "Ledger died of an accidental overdose of painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medication and other prescription drugs, the New York City medical examiner said Wednesday."
* Anna Nicole Smith, 39, accidental overdose on prescription drugs
* River Phoenix, 23, a huge star until he died from an overdose cocaine and heroin.
* Brad Renfro, 25, became addicted to heroin and was found dead after a night of drinking.
* Kurt Cobain, 27, "turned to drugs and alcohol to help him cope," then committed suicide.
* John Belushi, 33, was a repeated drug abuser who ultimately died of a lethal injection of cocaine and heroin.
* Sid Vicious, 21, overdosed on heroin obtained from his mother.
* Jim Morrison, 27, died of an apparent heroin overdose
* Jimi Hendrix, 27, drank wine, took sleeping pills, and asphyxiated on his own vomit.
* Marilyn Monroe, 36, overdosed on sleeping pills
* Janis Joplin, 27, heroin overdose
* Lenny Bruce, 40, heroin overdose
* Chris Farley, 33, overdose of morphine and cocaine
* Brian Epstein, 32, overdosed on sleeping pills and alcohol
* Judy Garland, 47, overdosed on sleeping pills
* Elvis Presley, 42, large drug intake causes a cardiac arrhythmia
* John Bonham,32, after too much drinking, asphyxiated on vomit
* Margaux Hemingway, 42, suicide

Hollywood values often include stealing and committing other crimes. Here are some examples:

* Winona Ryder was convicted of convicted of vandalism and grand theft for stealing designer merchandise worth $5,560.40.
* O.J. Simpson is widely believed to have murdered his wife and her friend, and was found liable in a civil (but not criminal) trial. He has since been arrested again on an unrelated charge.
* Paris Hilton was convicted of driving while intoxicated, and then violated the terms of her probation, leading to a 45-day prison sentence.
* Roman Catholic Mel Gibson hurled Antisemitic abuse at police officers after being arrested for drink-driving on a notoriously dangerous road.

An admittedly Old Earth system the "Dunham classification" relies on empirical observation.
The concept of grain support figures heavily in the Dunham classification, which divides carbonate rocks into two broad groups; those whose original components were not bound together during deposition and those whose original components formed in place and consist of intergrowths of skeletal material. The former group is further subdivided as to whether or not the grains are mud-supported or grain supported. The latter group are called boundstones. If the rock consists of less than 10% grains it is called a mudstone. If it is mud supported with greater than 10% grains it is called a wackstone. If the rock is grain supported, it is called a packstone, if the grains have shapes that allow for small amounts of mud to occur in the interstices, and a grainstone if there is no mud between the grains.
