There has been a tremendous amount of '''homosexuality research''' since the the latter part of the 20th century. All the years of research have discovered that homosexuality is a type of sexual orientation in which such individuals pursue romantic and sexual relationships with those of the same gender, due to a natural preference for those individuals over those of the opposite gender. Numerous people have attempted to portray homosexuality as "immoral" and, in particular, "unnatural", citing religious texts made in times immemorial, theoretically by their deities or emissaries of such deities, despite the truth being that such texts are enigmatic at best, made during times when humanity's general situation was drastically different than it is now, and that such texts were likely made by schizophrenic or otherwise deluded individuals who, despite possibly having good intentions, may have, in fact, been working against the benefit of humanity in the long term, given the tendency of people to completely misinterpret and misapply any and every bit of rule or law ever made. In truth, many animals, when overpopulated, will also be naturally inclined to take partners of the same sex. It is, in essence, a means of population control, to prevent their own kind from becoming disproportionate to their food supply. This has been seen in penguins, specifically in a 2004 incident at the Central Park Zoo[http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/02/07/MNG3N4RAV41.DTL reported here], in which a pair of male penguins cared for a stone, used as a surrogate egg. The "egg" was replaced with an actual penguin egg, which the homosexual penguin couple then raised as their own offspring.

Sexuality is, indeed, malleable and can change over one's lifetime. It is not consciously so, however, and people do not "choose" to be homosexual. Rather, it is largely an unconscious response to one's situation. There are those who are born homosexual and never change, there are those who start believing themselves to be straight only to discover as they age that their preferences are, in fact, toward their own gender, or the opposite is also common.
Homosexuality is more common in urban areas where the human population is larger quite likely due to the earlier stated tendency toward countering overpopulation. Humankind has densely populated itself across the majority of the surface of the earth, and nowhere is that more apparent than in large cities, hence it seems an only natural biological response to attempt not to overwhelm the available food supply and available space. The urge to take a mate of the same sex satisfies the natural biological urge of all living organisms to seek sex and companionship without contributing to the growth problem.

Many people believe that homosexuals are more prone to mental illnesses and other psychiatric problems, and fail utterly to consider that perhaps it is, in fact, the prejudice against homosexuals that is practiced by society and likely has been impressed upon said individuals from an early age and the uncertainty wrought by that prejudice when they realize that they are of the "immoral" and "unnatural" sexual orientation that they have heard be demonized their entire lives up to that point. The social ramifications of being a homosexual are far more likely to cause mental illness in homosexuals than any other aspect of being so sexually oriented. In other words, the fact that homosexuality is so gravely looked down upon by the majority of society is what would likely cause any apparent prevalence of mental illness among homosexuals. To express the point a third time in a slightly different way, if homosexuality were not the subject of deep intolerance by so many, the apparent tendency of homosexuals toward psychiatric problems would not exist, and they would likely be comparable to heterosexuals in terms of likelihood of mental illness.

The effects of homosexuality on society are really not as significant as the majority of this wiki and people of like mind to the contributors of this wiki would have believed. They mistakenly treat all homosexuals as a collective agency when they are, in fact, as individual and as human as heterosexuals. Just as heterosexuals occasionally are abusive, so too are homosexuals flawed. There are homosexual child abuses just as there are heterosexual child abusers, the difference is how it is perceived by the rest of the world. Moreover, those who are abusive toward children tend to be lumped together with those who pursue consensual relationships of those within the acceptable age group. This is a logical fallacy, as the two are not in any meaningful way related. The former situation is generally a relationship of power and dominance, perhaps one of desperation also, while the latter is generally one of companionship and love, or lust at the very least, just as most heterosexual relationships are based. Any higher rates of abuse in the more conventional relationships could be easily attributed to the fact that those involved are likely put under undue pressure by the rest of society for being homosexual and entailing all of the prejudices inflicted upon relationships of that nature, or, perhaps due to male/male relationships having twice the amount of men involved relative to heterosexual relationships, as men in most societies are encouraged to be aggressive and assertive to the point of it being ingrained in the cultural psyche, and often in many lesbian relationships, one of the females involved is "butch" in personality, assuming the standard male traits, and therefore also prone to aggression. In both cases, the cultural prejudice would only exacerbate the aggressive tendencies of those involved, as being in a homosexual relationship is likely to entail abuse by external sources, which may lead to abuse within the relationship.

==Discrimination Against Homosexuals==
The Bible and all other largely fictitious religious texts were made during a time when human beings were not as numerous as they now are, and when homosexuals were proportionately smaller in number. At the time, propagation of the species was seen as a much more urgent and greater priority than it is now. Also, human beings were less knowledgeable at the time, as much less scientific information had been collected, and there was much less reliance on empirical research. People were much more willing to believe the words of people who were believed to have heard the voice of an apparent "almighty being" telling them how to live because there were few other apparent explanations.

Now, humans have both multiplied to an extreme and managed to, in the last few centuries, start to acquire knowledge verifiable by empirical means rather than apparent omnipotent will. We can experiment and research and observe and make detailed, well-reasoned theories and laws about deeper and deeper levels of the workings of our universe. We learn a little more about how to explain apparent oddities in abnormalities in the universe all the time. Biology and psychology are two such extensions, and while all of the mysteries of humankind are not yet entirely unraveled, this one we have finally found some headway into.

Yet people resist it.

Rather than realize that perhaps there is a reason for it that can be attributed to natural development on a personal and cultural level, many, particularly those of strong religious affiliation (and thus, strong ties to rules established millennia ago which were still written hundreds of years after the fact and have been edited since, usually not in a progressive fashion), homosexuality (and many other sorts of so-called sexual "deviancy") has been derisively labeled "wrong" for thousands of years and is usually a reason for things to be wrong rather than having any thought put into the matter. "God" says it is wrong, therefore it is wrong. In fact, the only logical basis on which it can be judged as "wrong" is that certain upper crust members would rather see heterosexual couples producing as many new little practitioners of their religions as possible, which also explains the stance of certain religions on contraception. Thus, people have followed their word as the word of their deity for generations and the world now verges on overpopulation, particularly in several areas.
