A '''shielding lotion''' is a complex mixture of chemical agents that bond with dead skin cells on the outer layer of the [[skin]] ([[epidermis]]) to form a protective external layer. Unlike standard [[moisturizer]]s, which work by hydrating the skin with [[oils]], [[humectants]], [[emollients]], [[lubricants]], etc., shielding lotions bond with the skin's outer layer to assist in natural oil and water retention. There is also some evidence that suggests that shielding lotions are able to protect against skin irritants.<ref>{{cite web|last1=D|first1=Williams|title=Shielding Lotions - July/August 2005 - Volume 24 - Issue 4 - p 181–182|url=http://journals.lww.com/dccnjournal/Abstract/2005/07000/Shielding_Lotions.8.aspx|website=Dimensions of Critical Care Nursing|publisher=Dimensions of Critical Care Nursing|accessdate=29 September 2015}}</ref>

==By indication==

Shielding lotions are used to prevent and treat [[Xeroderma|dry skin]], improve skin tone and texture, restore moisture balance in the skin, and also treat various dermatological conditions. According to the National Safety Council, shielding lotions can keep the skin from drying out.<ref>{{cite book|title=Safety & Health: SH, Volumes 172-173|date=Jun 1, 2010|publisher=The Council, 2005|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=mdUJAQAAMAAJ&q=shielding+lotion&dq=shielding+lotion&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CFEQ6AEwB2oVChMIk6-xlYGgyAIVATaICh0NDw90}}</ref>

In normal skin, shielding lotions prevent moisture and natural oil loss, contributing to healthier and more durable skin. When properly applied, shielding lotions also protect the skin from natural irritants, solvents, poisonous plants and shrubs, as well as the negative effects of skin allergies.<ref>{{cite web|last1=Elaine|first1=Larson|title=Skin Hygiene and Infection Prevention: More of the Same or Different Approaches?|url=http://cid.oxfordjournals.org/content/29/5/1287.full|website=Clinical Infectuous Diseases|publisher=Columbia University School of Nursing|accessdate=29 September 2015}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|author1=H Zhai|author2=H I Maibach|title=Barrier creams – skin protectants: can you protect skin?|url=http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1046/j.1473-2130.2001.00006.x/full|website=Wiley Online Library|publisher=Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology|accessdate=29 September 2015}}</ref>
Shielding lotions have successfully been used to treat dry skin by helping to retain the skin's natural moisture and oils. They have also been used in the treatment of [[eczema]],<ref>{{cite web|title=A Multi-Center Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy of an Over-the-Counter Cream in the Management of Mild to Moderate Atopic Dermatitis in Infants and Toddlers|url=https://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02120833?term=barrier+cream&recr=Completed&rank=11|website=ClinicalTrials.gov|publisher=Johnson & Johnson Consumer and Personal Products Worldwide|accessdate=29 September 2015}}</ref><ref>Church, Ronald. "TREATMENT OF INFANTILE ECZEMA." The Lancet 264.6846 (1954): 1020-1021.</ref> [[psoriasis]],<ref>Shah, N. ==Template:Navigator==

Just a general navigator I created at another wiki. Inspiration for bringing here, and an example of where it could be used, are the [[Kanji]] pages, for example on the [[Elementary kanji second year]] page we could have:

{{Navigator|Levels of Kanji|Elementary kanji first year|Elementary kanji third year}}

Or something to that effect. Now there are a couple of problems I've found:

*What to replace #PAGENAME with so the name of the current page is displayed
*How to allow the displayed name of the Previous/Next pages be different to the actual name (for example, replacing [[Elementary kanji first year]] with [[Elementary kanji first year|First Year]]). I'm thinking the best bet will be using IF statements (eg IF name = -Elementary kanji first year-First Year THEN output = <nowiki>[[Elementary kanji first year|First Year]]</nowiki> or something along those lines, the other alternative is to use multiple inputs, but that gets messy

The first of these points is the easiest to fix, and once it is the template should be ready to be used. We can sort the second point out as we go. [[User:StatsMsn|StatsMsn]] 07:28, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
==Template for parodist identification==
It might be useful to have a "parodist" template to slap on user's userpages if they are suspected of being parodists. This will help sysops identify the users whose contributions they should look into with scrutiny. Oftentimes brand new users will start their "career" at CP by posting a controversial statement on, for example, the main talk page, without having any meaningful contributions to the encyclopedia itself. Such users are more often than not parodists, and having such a template will help temper them before they go on to do damage. --[[User:DRamon|DRamon]] 16:30, 31 October 2008 (EDT)
I believe it is so frequently used that it would be nice if this can be fixed. Also I have a suggestion: I'm frequently confused how to interpret parameter 'page(s)' -I'd prefer if there are two such params: one referring to page(s) from where the quote is taken and other referring to total number of pages of the book.
I also suggest there should be a 'cite journal' template available. Thanks for your kind consideration. --[[User:AK|AK]] 04:58, 29 September 2012 (EDT)
==Language box==
I created [[Template:Language box]]. This allows you to create a box with the name of the subject in the appropriate Asian language. Few of our readers can read non-Latin characters, so giving a name in an Asian language in the running text tends to interrupt the flow. This template allows this such characters to be treated as a graphic. See [[Republic of China]] for an example. [[User:PeterKa|PeterKa]] 02:31, 9 January 2014 (EST)
According to the National Safety Council, shielding lotions can keep the skin from drying out.<ref>{{cite book|title=Safety & Health: SH, Volumes 172-173|date=Jun 1, 2010|publisher=The Council, 2005|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=mdUJAQAAMAAJ&q=shielding+lotion&dq=shielding+lotion&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CFEQ6AEwB2oVChMIk6-xlYGgyAIVATaICh0NDw90}}</ref>

In normal skin, shielding lotions prevent moisture and natural oil loss, contributing to healthier and more durable skin. When properly applied, shielding lotions also protect the skin from natural irritants, solvents, poisonous plants and shrubs, as well as the negative effects of skin allergies.<ref>{{cite web|last1=Elaine|first1=Larson|title=Skin Hygiene and Infection Prevention: More of the Same or Different Approaches?|url=http://cid.oxfordjournals.org/content/29/5/1287.full|website=Clinical Infectuous Diseases|publisher=Columbia University School of Nursing|accessdate=29 September 2015}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|author1=H Zhai|author2=H I Maibach|title=Barrier creams – skin protectants: can you protect skin?|url=http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1046/j.1473-2130.2001.00006.x/full|website=Wiley Online Library|publisher=Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology|accessdate=29 September 2015}}</ref>

Hello and welcome to my user page. I am a 42 year old web developer, residing in Southern California with my wife and daughter. I am one of those individuals who has read a lot of books on a lot of topics and as a result, I am a "jack of all trades", but a "master of none".

I love reading and writing, listening to all kinds of music, playing piano and painting. Having edited at Wikipedia for over 5 years and having grown weary of the socialist mindset there, I became inactive. I was thrilled to find a Conservative alternative here and hope to be a regular contributor.
