The Wildrose Party of Alberta is a new grassroots political movement.
The party's main emphasis will be:

~ Reducing by constitutional means the enormous net outflow of wealth from Albertans to the federal government
~ Ensuring that provincial decisions better reflect the mainstream values and priorities of most Albertans
~Ensuring that the party's Leader and MLAs honour their election promises and commitments

On Saturday, June 23, 2007 seventy-six Albertans gathered in Red Deer and launched a political party.

They chose the name Wildrose Party of Alberta, after the province's floral symbol of sovereignty within Confederation.

The Wildrose group must now register as a nonprofit society, and then collect 6004 Alberta signatures to gain party status. It will soon launch an aggressive sign-up campaign to complete party registration by September, in time for an October founding convention in Edmonton.

The Wildrose society/party also elected an executive on Saturday and adopted a constitution.

The initiative began with an earlier Red Deer meeting (May 26) where fifty people from diverse political backgrounds mostly agreed that existing political parties can't or won't challenge the federal system and restrain provincial spending.

The initiative was bolstered by two recent by-elections in which support for conservative parties plunged overall, while liberal support did not increase.

A province-wide poll conducted for the group by proCall Marketing of Calgary found widespread desire across all of Alberta for a political option of this sort.
Nigeria was the most populous colony in Africa and one of the most prosperous, and it won its independence from Great Britain in 1960. Tensions between ethnic groups - in part a legacy of the indirect rule model of imperialism - led to civil war between the Muslim Hausa-Fulani and the Christian (and animist) Ibo and Yoruba. There was tension even within the Christian groups, as Igbo preferred a democratic society while the Yoruba preferred a monarchy.
Modern Nigeria
Nigeria is one of the strongest growing democracies in Africa. It is also the home to over 140 million people from different ethnicities and backgrounds. Having won its independence in 1960 Nigeria has continued to promote its sovereignty in the region, and assists its neighbors via the African Union or through supplying its neighbor’s power.

Nigeria is famous for internet fraud launched from the country, especially the 419 or Nigerian scam, named for Article 419, an anti-fraud provision in the Nigerian Criminal Code.

Nigeria continues to suffer from internal tribal disunity, however, and this prompted one Nigerian nationalist to say, "Nigeria is not a nation. It is a mere geographical expression."
Proposed Block Policy....your question
* It is as simple as the carrot and the stick.

:It is difficult, if not impossible, to impose administrative sanctions on others without at times seeming to be arbitrary or arrogant. A person will see such actions as they do, and "facts" will not change their mind. To be limited in one's response to undesirable actions, is to tie one hand behind your back from the start. I say this because as it is now worded, so much is totally subjective, and it doesn't preclude the type of Sysop reversals of another's actions we have been seeing. "Third Party" Sysop means what? The "YEC" Sysop faction? The "Liberal" faction? Conflict resolution is also subjective. When a Sysop's actions are reversed, that erodes their authority and leads users to "shop" for like-minded Sysops. This undermines the project as a whole. :If you're going to quote anyone, then give the full context. Strange as it might seem to you, Ann Coulter has a reason for everything she says. When, for example, four widows start publicly those who would inhibit all efforts to prevent the murderers of their husbands from murdering other women's husbands, then they deserve the heaping of a certain opprobrium on their heads. == Bible ref2 template ==

Terry,

Your new template Bible ref2 doesn't work. You have copied Bible ref and modified it to not display the "verses" parameter, but the code still expects the "verses" parameter and still tries incorporating it into the URL passed to BibleGateway, with the result that BibleGateway can't resolve it and doesn't display the requested chapter(s).

Also, instead of creating minor variations of templates, it is better if the one template covers several similar situations. That is, it would be better to modify Bible ref to make the "verses" parameter optional (or even better, combine Bible quote with Bible ref and Bible ref2, if that is practicable).

Do you know how to make "verses" optional, or would you like me to do that for you?

Either way, I suggest you change all your uses of Bible ref2 to Bible ref, so that they will work once the latter is altered to accommodate that.
Dear Terry,

I think the main point is that we are very shallow on footnotes. If we are going to be a concise encyclopedia it is all the more important we have footnotes and external links so people can get more info. Right now, our encyclopedia is rather unusable except for certain hot button "culture war" issues like creationism vs. evolution, abortion, etc. Citing also forces people to put down more reliable info. Sooner of later the liberals are going to do a study on Conservapedia in terms of accuracy and it is important we fix the problem now.
Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) was a German philosopher. Kant was among the last of the major Enlightenment thinkers, and was one of the most influential intellectuals in Europe during his lifetime.

In his A Critique of Pure Reason Kant criticizes pure reason as a guide to life, establishing several categories through which reason is able to comprehend the ultimate reality. Though Kant may not have been a Christian himself, he considered Christian values to be the best, due to the antimony of practical reason. Kant also established a systematic basis for critical philosophy, establishing synthetic a priori considerations as a prior necessity to analytic a priori concepts, and suggested a material origin for the solar system (prior to Kant, the origin of the solar system was considered to be immaterial and possibly even a priori). Kant's own suggestion for a moral daily life was the categorical imperative: Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law. Expressed another way, an act is moral only if it works as a rule for everyone. For example, littering would be wrong because if everyone did it, then there would be an ugly mess. On the other hand, if a murderer asks you where someone is hiding, you should always tell them because lying is wrong. The categorical imperative can be contrasted with the hypothetical imperative, which says that you should act according to any maxim which might possibly be willed. He remained single throughout his life, though he said, toward the end of it, that he could not afford a wife in his youth and did not need one in his old age. Kant's aim was to make philosophy truly scientific.

George Orwell was the pen name for Eric Arthur Blair (June 25, 1903 - January 21, 1950), a leading English socialist writer, essayist and journalist who exposed the evils of totalitarianism in two novels published near the end of his life: Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. His first novel, based on his experiences on the Imperial Police Force in Burma, Burmese Days, explored the evils of colonialism.

The formative experience of Orwell's creative life was volunteering to fight the Spanish Fascist forces to keep them from overturning the democratically elected socialist government of Spain in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). He enlisted in the POUM (In English, Workers Party for Marxist Unity) Militia, and saw action on the Aragon front, where he fought side by side with Anarchists and Communists, as well as Republican regulars.

He became disillusioned with the Spanish government's policy of witholding arms from the POUM and the Anarchists, which he saw as an attempt by the Communists to water down the revolutionary nature of the Anti-Fascist resistance, and centralize power in the hands of the Moscow-backed Communist Party. Taking a bullet through his neck but surviving, Orwell was invalided to Barcelona, where he witnessed the Stalinist repression of Trotskyist and Anarchist parties. Orwell and his wife were forced to escape from Spain as fugitives, after the POUM was banned by the increasingly repressive regime.

Despite his persecution, Orwell continued to support the Republic upon his return to England, viewing a Communist dominated Spain as better than a Fascist Spain.fact-political He recounted his experiences in Spain in the book Homage to Catalonia.

Orwell had only ten years left in his life when he returned. During that period he and his wife adopted a baby boy, but Orwell's wife died shortly thereafter.

In those ten years Orwell wrote his famous anti-communist described above, first spending three years on the short story Animal Farm (1944), and then perhaps five years on the longer novel 1984 (1949). Orwell continued championing Socialism right up to his death, writing a regular column in the left-labor Tribune paper, but strongly criticized the USSR, unusually for a left-winger of the period. He died of tuberculosis in 1950.

Quotes
*It cannot be said too often - at any rate, it is not being said nearly often enough - that collectivism is not inherently democratic, but, on the contrary, gives to a tyrannical minority such powers as the Spanish Inquisitors never dreamt of.

*One sometimes gets the impression that the mere words 'Socialism' and 'Communism' draw towards them with magnetic force every fruit-juice drinker, nudist, sandal-wearer, sex-maniac, Quaker, 'Nature Cure' quack, pacifist and feminist in England.

*If only the sandals and pistachio-colored shirts could be put in a pile and burnt, and every vegetarian, teetotaler and creeping Jesus sent home to Welwyn Garden City to do his yoga exercises quietly. As with the Christian religion, the worst advertisement for Socialism is its adherents.

*The truth is that to many people calling themselves Socialists, revolution does not mean a movement of the masses with which they hope to associate themselves; it means a set of reforms which 'we,' the clever ones, are going to impose upon 'them,' the Lower Orders.

*War against a foreign country only happens when the moneyed classes think they are going to profit from it.

*The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them.

*Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I know it.

*I have no particular love for the idealised 'worker' as he appears in the bourgeois Communist's mind, but when I see an actual flesh-and-blood worker in conflict with his natural enemy, the policeman, I do not have to ask myself which side I am on.

*If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.
Five sorts are in existence today, but all with greatly diminished ranges; all are threatened with extinction due to poaching, as their horns command enormous prices, being believed to have aphrodisiac properties.

Guitarplayer:

Same-sex marriage, also referred to as gay marriage or homosexual marriage, is the official certification in jurisdictions that allow a union between two people of the same sex. Social conservatives regard it as immoral, and argue that use of the word "marriage" is a misnomer, because the marriage services of Christian denominations - and virtually all other established religions - define marriage as the union of a man and a woman, a definition which was also written into United States federal law in 1996.

Dr. James Dobson's Focus on the Family refers to the phrase same-sex 'marriage, with quotation marks around the word marriage, to call attention to the fact that marriage—civil as well as religious—is intrinsically a union between a man and a woman, and that therefore same-sex unions are "counterfeits."

Abuse of the term was unheard of a few decades ago, however these unions are now among a number of issues advocated by gay rights activists. In the United States, marriage is primarily governed by each individual state and marriage laws differ from state to state. Several states allow "civil unions" between two people of the same sex, and one, Massachusetts, currently allows it under the name "marriage." These marriages are not recognized by the Federal government.

Background
In 1996 Congress recognized the likelihood that gay rights advocates would soon seek changes in some states. It was concerned about the possibility of test cases reaching the Supreme Court, and of the court conceivably ruling that a state—even though it prohibits gay marriage itself—must honor gay marriages performed in another state. The Defense of Marriage act, which was passed and signed by President Clinton, prevents this possibility, and also prevents the Federal Government from recognizing marriage as anything other than a union between a man and a woman.

In 1999 a Vermont court ruled that under its constitution, it was not required to allow "same-sex marriage" but was required to make provisions to grant same-sex couples legal rights identical to those provided by marriage. Vermont responded by creating "civil unions," which are legally distinct from marriages but convey the same rights. As of 2007, California, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Maine also provide civil unions or domestic partnerships. Beginning in 2008, the states of Washington, Oregon, and New Hampshire will also provide same-sex unions. Hawaii provides certain benefits to same sex couples. In 2003 the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled that under Massachusetts' constitution, same-sex couples could not be denied Massachusetts marriage licenses, making Massachusetts the sole state to issue same-sex marriage licenses.

The religious ceremony of marriage is governed by each denomination and is unaffected by laws passed by civil authority. Same-sex marriage is forbidden in Orthodox Judaism, Catholicism, and most mainstream Protestant denominations. Thus, even in Massachusetts, it would be close to impossible for a same-sex couple to find a Catholic priest willing to marry them in a church, or an Orthodox rabbi willing to marry them in a temple.

Public attitude toward same-sex marriage parallels attitude toward homosexuality. In general, it is opposed by social conservatives and outside of this group, support is split down the middle leaning to opposition.

Issues
James Dobson of Focus on the Family suggests that the motivation of those advocating same-sex marriage is not to secure the benefits of marriage for gay couples, but to destroy the institution of marriage itself:
:...most gays and lesbians do not want to marry each other. That would entangle them in all sorts of legal constraints. Who needs a lifetime commitment to one person? The intention here is to destroy marriage altogether. With marriage as we know it gone, everyone would enjoy all the legal benefits of marriage (custody rights, tax-free inheritance, joint ownership of property, health care and spousal citizenship, etc.,) without limiting the number of partners or their gender. Nor would "couples" be bound to each other in the eyes of the law. This is clearly where the movement is headed.

The Defend Marriage organization states, as an issue, that legalizing same-sex "marriage" "would make it more difficult to prevent same-sex couples from adopting children" and says that "Studies show that the incidence of child abuse in same-sex 'families' is many times higher than in traditional families." According to a March, 2007 report, there are 65,000 adopted children in the U.S. being raised by same-sex couples. The same report says 14,100 foster children were being raised by one or more gay or lesbian foster parents.

In Great Britain, the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) has expressed its full support to the stand taken by the Catholic Church oppossing regulations on gay adoption. The Catholic Church sought to be exempt from the new law. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams of the Church of England, supports the Catholic Church's efforts declaring that the rights of conscience cannot be subject to laws. Catholic leaders have already said that its teachings prevent its agencies placing children with homosexuals and they will have to close if bound by the rules. The MCB, the UK's leading Muslim umbrella group embracing over 400 affiliated organizations, said that while it supported anti-discrimination laws, homosexuality is forbidden in Islam.
Norway is one of the few Western European nations not in the European Union but is a member of the Schengen group of countries which permit cross-border travel without passport control.

Norway has had inhabitants since the last ice age (some 10,000 years ago). There may have been some groups of people living in the coastal regions even earlier. The most famous group of Norwegians is the Vikings (the origin of the name is not certain). They proliferated from the year 800 A.D. to 1100, approximately. Modern Norwegians, such as the mild-mannered King Harald V, are a far cry from the common image of their ancestors, although this image is somewhat skewed by Anglo-Saxon and Irish accounts of raids. Norway has a high proportion of atheists and few explicitly religious citizens, although it has a state church (lutheran).fact. It also has the second highest per capita income GDP (PPP) in the world and, according to the UN, some of the best quality of life of any nation on the planet alongside other Scandinavian countries.
Terri Schiavo

Guitarplayer: "millions of Americans" had no legal standing in the case, their opinions were not relevant to the case, and the number is not backed up by any citation.

Terri Schiavo was a disabled woman forced to die by dehydration over the objections of her parents, her brother and sister, her church. Congress passed a special law to prevent her dehydration, but it was unsuccessful as interpreted by federal courts.

Schiavo was diagnosed by physicians as being brain-dead after her husband reported that she had collapsed in their home early in the morning. Her husband later started a new family with another woman whom he did not marry, instead retaining legal authority over Terri. An attorney prominent in the movement described by some as "pro-death" represented Mr. Schiavo and applied to a probate court for the right to deprive Terri of water until she died. The probate judge ordered that doctors remove the feeding tube, and that anyone attempting to bring her water be arrested.

Terri Schiavo was not terminally ill, she was not “end stage,” and she was likely not in a persistent vegetative state[citation needed]. The parents were denied the right to have a comprehensive medical examination of her by independent physicians. Many patients observed to be in a brain-damaged state like Terri's have surprisingly recovered, including several highly publicized cases shortly after Terri died from dehydration[who? This claim is highly disputed].

Legal dispute
The legal dispute over Schiavo's death lasted seven years, beginning with the filing of a petition in 1998 with the Pinellas County (Florida) Circuit Court for permission to remove her feeding tube, and ending with her death in 2005. Following her death, an autopsy showed her brain to have half the normal mass for a woman her age and confirmed the extensive damage shown on CAT scan.

In 2003, a court ordered the removal of Schiavo's feeding tube. This prompted the Florida legislature to pass 'Terri's Law' in under a week, authorizing the personal involvement of Governor Jeb Bush to overrule the finding of the court. The governor immediately ordered the reinsertion of the feeding tube. Terri's Law was lated ruled unconstitutional by the Florida Supreme Court, finding that state and federal constitutions prohibit the interference of the governor or legislature within a specific judicial case.

Neither an Act of Congress nor any federal court overturned the probate judge's order that Terri be dehydrated to death.

Autopsy
The State and Schiavo's estranged husband refused to allow an independent autopsy, and Schiavo was cremated after her death. The State did perform its own autopsy and reported these results:

# “Neuropathologic examination alone of the decedent’s brain—or any brain, for that matter—cannot prove or disprove a diagnosis of persistent vegetative state.”
# The changes in the cortex were most severe in the occipital lobes, “with relative preservation of the frontal and temporal lobes.”
# Oral feedings, based on autopsy findings and past medical records, were “potentially harmful or, at least, extremely dangerous to Mrs. Schiavo’s health and welfare” because of the risk of aspiration. [Better to dehydrate and starve the patient and cause certain death than to risk an aspiration pneumonia?]
# The only evidence for an eating disorder was the initial low serum potassium, which could have resulted from the fluid load and epinephrine administered during her resuscitation.
# The autopsy showed no signs of remote trauma to neck structures, but with 15 years delay, “even bony anomalies would have likely resolved.” External signs of trauma should have been apparent on her hospital admission just after her collapse. “Subtle trauma related to commotio cordis or nontraumatic asphyxia is also possible,” as are “drugs/toxins not typically detected by hospital toxicologic screening.”

Guitarplayer: Not only Christians....

Same-sex marriage, also referred to as gay marriage or homosexual marriage, is the official certification in jurisdictions that allow a union between two people of the same sex. Social conservatives regard it as immoral, and argue that use of the word "marriage" is a misnomer, because the marriage services of many religions define marriage as the union of a man and a woman, a definition which was also written into United States federal law in 1996.

The Guantanamo Bay detention camp is a military prison of the United States of America on the southeastern tip of the island of Cuba. In this prison, the people being held are accused by the US government of terrorism. The liberal organization Center for Constitutional Rights is organizing attorneys to file habeas corpus petitions in the Washington, D.C., federal court on behalf of the detainees at Guantanamo Bay. On April 2, 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court denied appeals by a group of detainees of this camp, with the majority stating that it would be inappropriate to rule until the group had exhausted other remedies.
Guantanamo Bay
Guantanamo Bay is a coastal area on southeastern Cuba occupied and controlled by the United States government pursuant to a 1903 Lease Agreement with the newly independent Republic of Cuba subsequent to the Spanish-American War. The Agreement established that:

:"the United States recognizes the continuance of the ultimate sovereignty of the Republic of Cuba over the [leased areas]," but "the Republic of Cuba consents that during the period of the occupation by the United States . . . the United States shall exercise complete jurisdiction and control over and within said areas."

In 1934 the United States and Cuba entered into another treaty that provided that, absent an agreement to modify or abrogate the lease, it would remain in effect "[s]o long as the United States of America shall not abandon the . . . naval station of Guantanamo."
Among his complaints were that he and other detainees were given low-quality soap and other toiletries, noisy fans and deflated balls for recreation that hardly bounced. In another case, some 22 Chinese Muslim detainees have been cleared of all wrong doing, but have been held in the prison camp for more than five years.
