Elsergio:

The Simpsons is a satirical animated comedy series created by "Life Is Hell" cartoonist Matt Groening. The Simpsons started on the The Tracey Ullman show in 1987. In December 1989 the show debuted on the Fox Network. The show was also made into a feature length movie which was released on July 27th 2007.

The Simpsons the longest running television series in the United States and is viewed all over the world.

Family:
The show revolves around the fictional Simpsons family.

Homer Simpson is the overweight, balding father of the family. Homer works as a safety inspector in the local nuclear power plant, and enjoys a diet mostly centered around eating donuts and drinking Duff beer. Homer is by choice quite lazy but does get pushed into occasionally performing heroic acts for his family.

Marge Simpson is the mother of the family. Instantly recognizable thanks to her unfeasibly large blue beehive hairdo, Marge provides the foundation for the family. Her relationship with Homer is portrayed as a loving one but frequently exhasperating due mostly to Homer's buffoonery. Marge is in many respects a classical American mother, as she stays at home while Homer works and she takes care of the family. On a few occasions Marge has gotten a job which was met with horrible results.

Bart, the son, is a troublemaker and self-proclaimed underachiever. Bart has a mixed relationship with his father. While sometimes harboring a very close relationship with his father, Bart's opinion Homer is all over the radar, ranging from very affectionate love to deep frustration.

Lisa is the older daughter. Lisa is mostly concerned with protecting the environment, and frequently campaigns on environmental issues. Lisa also plays the saxophone.

Maggie is a baby who doesn't talk.

Minimum wage

2007-07-19T01:21:50Z

Elsergio:

Minimum wage refers to the lowest legal wage that an employer may pay their workers. More than 90% of countries in the world have minimum wage laws. Economic conservatives tend to oppose increases in the minimum wage on the grounds that in a free market, the price of labor, like any other commodity, should be set by negotiations between the buyer and seller without undue interference from the state. Economic liberals disagree with this view of labor as a commodity because they believe it dehumanizes laborers by permitting companies to pay employees less than necessary to live a decent life, support a family, etc.

Heavy metal music

2007-07-10T23:06:14Z

Elsergio: Slayer lyrics inserted as an example of anti-christian sentiment in metal

Heavy Metal was developed around 1969 and 1974 from Psychedelic and Blues Rock and Classical music. The aural aspects of metal generally revolve around highly-amplified guitar distortion, fast guitar solos and harsh vocals.

Heavy Metal music and Spirituality
While Anti-Christian sentiments are quite common amongst the extreme metal sub genres, especially black and death metal, there is a large amount of heavy metal with an overtly Christian message (i.e, As I Lay Dying, Believer, Stryper) and several musicians of the genre are openly Christian, though very few outside Christian metal could be called fundamentalists. Such musicians include: Tom Araya, Dave Mustaine, Dave Ellefson, Chris Jericho, Max Calvera, and Dan Spitz. Some popular ensembles to this effect are Underoath, P.O.D., He Is Legend, and Norma Jean. One of the most popular Christian Metal labels is Tooth and Nail Records.

The following lyrics are from "New Faith" by Slayer, an exemplary Trash Metal band with a large underground fan-base:

"Welcome to the horror of the revelation
Tell me what you think of your savior now
I reject all the biblical views of the truth
Dismiss it as the folklore of the times
I won't be force fed prophecies
From a book of untruths for the weakest mind
Join the new faith for the celebration
Cult of new faith fuels the devastation"

The Anti-Christian sentiment is very apparent.

Sub Genres
Sub genres include Black Metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Speed Metal, New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Doom Metal, Folk Metal, Viking Metal, Power Metal, Progressive (or Avant-Garde) Metal, and Gothic Metal.
