Could this be moved to Romance language? :: I've taken a linguistics class back in college, have background in French and Latin (Catholic Highschool), a smattering of Ancient Greek and a few words in Sanskrit (mostly how they relate to other indo-european languages). I've also cleaned up the links to the plural form, you should be able to delete the redirect without problem now. --Mtur 23:28, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
Largest Branch of IE?
I don't think so. The indo-aryan languages have around 1,000,000,000 speakers (Hindi/Urdu 540 million, Bengali 200 million, Punjabi 100 million, Marathi 70 million, Gujurati 40 million, Nepali 40 million, Sindhi about 20 million, and that's not only the 10 biggest I-A languages, there're about 5 more with over 1,000,000 speakers). Whereas with romance we have Spanish at 450,000,000, Portuguese with about 230 million, French with 75 million, Italian with 60 million, Romanian with 40 million, Cataln with around 10 million, and that's about it.

Latin is an Indo-European language of the Italic family; its closest relative was Umbric, which is now extinct. Latin was the most widely spoken language in the Roman Empire, and is the language from which all the Romance languages are derived. These languages include Spanish, Romanian, Portuguese, Italian, French and Catalan among others.

Latin grammar is marked by an extensive system of noun cases and verbal inflection. Noun cases are organized along nominative-accusative lines, with several other oblique cases also used. Verbal morphology distinguishes voice (active and passive), tense (past, present, future), mood (indicative, imperative, subjunctive, optative), aspect (perfect, imperfect, pluperfect), and person (first, second, and third person in singular and plural numbers). Much of the Latin read nowadays is based on literature written around the time of (Sanath.). The modern Romance languages are descended from Vulgar Latin, which has less literature than its older counterpart. Changes from Classical to Vulgar Latin included the merger of long /e:/ and /o:/ with short /i/ and /u/, respectively, the loss of /h/ and the accusative nasalisation, and the replacement of cases, tenses, and voices with periphrastic constructions (this change occured across western Europe). Until 1962, Latin was the language in which all Roman Catholic masses were conducted. A number of Roman Catholics still conduct masses in Latin. Cicero and Publius Vergelus Vaas Maro IV. Phonologically, Latin is generally similar to other western languages of the Indo-European family.

I wouldn't wish to give this article an anti-American spin, as I think is present to an extent in the Wikipedia version, but I think it's important to mention the circumstances before the revolution and the reasons for the embassy hostage incident. -Rafa
The April 2007 attack? Is there some piece of news I'm not aware of?
'The April 2007 attack on Iran was anything but a surprise. Websites and print media throughout the world, mostly of leftist orientation, trumpeted the imminent outbreak of war, with some even specifying that it would commence before dawn Iranian time on April 6, 2007. Wikipedia had reported as early as January 20, 2007 that the attack would come in April (quoting the Arab Times, which reported it on January 18), and that this month was chosen because British Prime Minister Tony Blair would be leaving office that summer, or even as early as May.'
I cut this. It seems to be referring to the hostage crisis, but it seems to refer to events that haven't happened. Wuh? Wikinterpreter
I think that this article could do with adding the first 6,000 years or so of Iranian history; If no one else knows much about it I'll do it myself but I could probably only do a kind of summary.
