I just don't want people to judge him simply by his political views. I think Brit Hume is a very respectable journalist as well, and I disagree with over half of what he says. I think we should all try to keep an open mind. - Captainalpha1
Hume is a journalist. Chris is not. That is the difference. Matthews is a former policial flack/hack, who was washed up, and hired by MSNBC. His ratings in prime time are less than 20% of what the 4:00AM reruns of O'Reilly get. I wasn't talking about his popularity, or his ratings. (Even though Bill O'Reilly's ratings are down 17% and Countdown is up 40%). I was only showing that I try to listen to both arguments. Chris Matthews is certainly a journalist, and "Washed up"? He's been a broadcast journalist, newspaper bureau chief, Presidential speechwriter, and best-selling author. He worked for 15 years as a print journalist, 13 of them as Washington Bureau Chief for The San Francisco Examiner (1987 - 2000), and two years as a national columnist for The San Francisco Chronicle, which was syndicated to 200 newspapers by United Media. He's won the David Brinkley Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism, The Abraham Lincoln Award from the Union League of Philadelphia, and in 2005 he received the Gold Medal Award from the Pennsylvania Society.
You're fooling yourself if you think he's not a journalist. And you're simply ignorant if you think that he was ever "washed up". I think that because his views disagree with yours, you'll do anything to make him into a low good for nothing journalist. Well I look at both sides of the spectrum, and I don't allow my opinions to interfere with my job. Goodnight, and good luck. - Captainalpha1

Unfortunately, for you, the comparison you are quoting is based upon a study of 2006 versus 2005. This is August of 2007, last I checked. None of their hoped-for gains materialized over the past year, however. And when Fox launches its new business channel, most in the industry expect GE to finally pull the plug on CNBC and perhaps MSNBC as well. Less competition isn't desirable, IMHO. It's a pity NBC was allowed by GE to squander their resources on such a blatantly leftist agenda. Look for a major shake-up in NBC News and Network management in the Fall. ;-) --<font color="#0002AC" face="Comic Sans MS">şŷŝôρ-₮K</font><font color="OOFFAA">Ṣρёаќǃ</font> 14:55, 8 August 2007 (EDT)
If you watch his show on a daily basis like I do, you'll quickly find that he's not very liberal. He's actually more moderate than enything else. And he has a ton of experience, and a plethora of awards that makes hime a very respectable journalist. I can't turn him into something he already is, I can only write the truth and try to make this a respectable site in the process. - Captainalpha1
I just don't want people to judge him simply by his political views. I think Brit Hume is a very respectable journalist as well, and I disagree with over half of what he says. I think we should all try to keep an open mind. - Captainalpha1

----
Hume is a journalist. Chris is not. That is the difference. Matthews is a former policial flack/hack, who was washed up, and hired by MSNBC. His ratings in prime time are less than 20% of what the 4:00AM reruns of O'Reilly get. That any indication of his popularity to you? --<font color="#0002AC" face="Comic Sans MS">şŷŝôρ-₮K</font><font color="OOFFAA">Ṣρёаќǃ</font> 17:56, 3 August 2007 (EDT)
----
I wasn't talking about his popularity, or his ratings.

*Take great care in name calling, okay? Remember this is not Wikipedia, we are a Christian and Conservative friendly encyclopedia, and are not striving for NPOV wherein Conservative and Christian thought is denigrated to make way for revisionist thinking. Like the ratings deal...Apples and Oranges comparison, and O'Reilly is up, not down, across the board. --<font color="#0002AC" face="Comic Sans MS">şŷŝôρ-₮K</font><font color="OOFFAA">Ṣρёаќǃ</font> 22:23, 4 August 2007 (EDT)

Let me specify. Chris Matthews is neither Liberal, or conservative. I know this because he frequently voices his mixed opinions.
That any indication of his popularity to you? --<font color="#0002AC" face="Comic Sans MS">şŷŝôρ-₮K</font><font color="OOFFAA">Ṣρёаќǃ</font> 17:56, 3 August 2007 (EDT)
----
I wasn't talking about his poularity, or his ratings. He's won the David Brinkley for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism, The Abraham Lincoln Award from the Union League of Philadelphia, and in 2005 he received the Gold Medal Award from the Pennsylvania Society.
You're fooling yourself if you think he's not a journalist. And you're simply ignorant if you think that he was ever washed up. I think that because his views disagree with yours, you'll do anything to make him into a low good for nothings journalist. Well I look at both sides of the spectrum, and I don't allow my opinions to interfere with my job. I'm signing off now, so don't expect me to continue arguing. Goodnight, and good luck. - Captainalpha1

If you watch his show on a daily basis like I do, you'll quickly find that he's not very liberal. He's actually more moderate than enything else. And he has a ton of experience, and a plethora of awards that makes hime a very respectable journalist. :Two strikes:
:#Liberals frequently to to pass as "moderate", on the grounds that they "predominate" and are therefore middle of the road. See Bernard Goldberg's expose of this error.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let me specify. Chris Matthews is neither Liberal, or conservative. I know this because he frequently voices his mixed opinions.
One Strike: This site and it's administrators imply that Chris Matthews is not respectable journalist. - Captainalpha1

MSNBC is a 24-hour cable news channel. It is second of the three major cable news channels, just beating CNN

The channel was started in 1996 as a joint venture between Microsoft and NBC. On December 23, 2005, ending a partnership that soured long before, Microsoft and NBC announced that they would dissolve their joint ownership of the cable news channel, with NBC taking control. NBC completed a deal to assume majority control of the channel, with an 82 percent stake.

MSNBC has received criticism from both liberal and conservative groups regarding the channel's perceived biases. The conservative media watchdog group the Media Research Center argues that MSNBC has a liberal slant, citing shows by Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, while the liberal Media Matters for America decries the channel's alleged conservative slant, citing shows by right-libertarian Tucker Carlson and conservative Joe Scarbourough.

In the past, MSNBC shows have featured Mitch Albom, Ann Coulter, Phil Donahue, Bill Moyers, Maury Povich, and Michael Savage, among others. That varied programming was gradually reduced as NBC veered more leftist in its point-of-view.

In 2003, in an effort to appear more patriotic, MSNBC fired talk-show host Phil Donahue. An internal memo read, in part, "Donahue represents a difficult public face for NBC in a time of war. At the same time, our competitors are waving the flag at every opportunity."
MSNBC is a 24-hour cable news channel. It is the second rated of the three major cable news channels.

The conservative media watchdog group the Media Research Center argues that MSNBC has a liberal slant, citing shows by Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, while the liberal Media Matters for America decries the channel's conservative slant, citing shows by right-libertarian Tucker Carlson and conservative Joe Scarbourough.
