The Berlin Wall was a wall in [[Germany]] that separated Communist East Germany from democratic West Germany. It was one of the most visible symbols of the [[Iron Curtain]]. The wall was built in 1961 by the East German government in order to stop the tide of emigration to West Germany due to poor economic and political conditions in East Germany. In 1962, Peter Fechter was shot while attempting to cross into West Germany, and slowly bled to death in front of a large crowd, [http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cold.war/episodes/09/1st.draft/] which started a riot and led to Fechter becoming a symbol of resistance against the wall.

The symbolism of the wall as a representative of the divide between capitalism and communism was not lost on American President [[Ronald Reagan]], who, in a famous 1987 speech, urged [[Soviet Union|Soviet]] President [[Mikhail Gorbachev]] to "tear down this wall!" These words proved prophetic, as East Germany on November 9, 1989, accidentaly announced that the border would be re-opened. The wall was promptly destroyed. Germany reunified the following year.

The Prussia monarchy was abolished as a result of Germany losing World War I.

He was then appointed command of HQ of Czechoslovakia and then later in Poland. After this he was given command of the 7th [[Panzer]] division, because of his wonderful work at HQ. His army moved faster and farther than any other army in the history of the world, fitting the description of [[Blitzkrieg]]. After his great leadership in France he was appointed command of the newly formed Deutsches Afrika Korps successfully drove the [[British 8th Army]] out of Libya. He later went on to [[El Alamein]], [[Egypt]], were he was defeated. He is also known as the Desert Fox. He was forced to commit suicide after being discovered of plotting against Hitler and being charged of high treason.

The Kriegsmarine was [[Germany]]'s Navy during Worl War II containing the infamous U-Boat groups. The U-Boats were very feared and very destructive. Its codes were cracked in 1941 and was taking heavy casualties, but made new codes in later 1941 and inflicted many Allies casualties. In 1943 the last codes were cracked and all that was left of the Kriegsmarine was drawn back from the [[Atlantic Ocean]].

The Wehrmacht was the main ground army of Germany during [[World War II]]. It was highly trained when it made the first invasion into Poland and the Slavic countries.

Towards the end of [[World War II]] it was called back to Germany. It had suffered heavy casualties and was now using old men and young boys as part of the so called "Volkssturm" (translated: "People's Storm"), a last effort to counter allied advances.
