Talk:United States presidential election, 2024

Return to "United States presidential election, 2024" page.

Does anyone seriously believe Biden will be a serious contender for re-election, even in the Democratic party? Does anyone seriously believe he'll make it through this term? RobSFree Kyle! 17:37, July 27, 2021 (EDT)

Until he announces that he is not running again (whether because he chooses not to do so after serving only one term, or he chooses to resign before then -- such as a day or two after January 20, 2022, or the 25th Amendment is invoked thus nullifying any real chance of re-election), an incumbent President who is eligible to run again has to be considered a serious candidate, especially given the power of incumbency (plus the fact that three of the six states in question during the 2020 Presidential election have done NOTHING to change how they do things voting wise -- Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan). Not counting candidates who served the remainder of a predecessor's term and then a full term of their own, only four times in American history has a President served one full term then chosen not to run for re-election: Polk, Pierce, Buchanan, and Hayes.
