I removed the ref about "terms not existing" as irrelevant. In fact, it irks me because discussions about the "normality" vs. immorality of homosexuality often drag in the idea that "no one had a word for homosexual or homosexuality" in ancient times.

First of all, it's not true. There were terms like pederasty to describe homosexual acts. Second of all, even if there was not a short and sweet term, there was certainly a way to refer to the idea: e.g., "person who engages in sexual contact with members of the same sex".

The pretense that America and Christian Europe and the rest of Western Civilization all derived from some sort of glorious pan-sexual paradise is utterly unsupported by any evidence. It's the sort of liberal myth which fills Wikipedia and the media with nonsense.
