The '''Family Research Council''' came into being in 1992 when it was split off from founded in 1981 as a division of[[James Dobson]]'s [[Focus on the Family]] . In 1992, it was split off from Focus on the Family to be able to have a more independent political voice for conservative family values. The current president is [[Tony Perkins]], having taken over the position in 2003.
