An '''amicus curiae ''' is a "friend of the court", which is an independent party that submits a brief to a court to alert it to issues not fully addressed by the [[plaintiff]]s or [[defendant]]s.
Amicus curiae briefs are most often filed with the [[U.S. Supreme Court]]. An attorney must be a member of the bar of the [[U.S. Supreme Court]] to file a brief there.
