/* Ethics violations and abuse of power */
Ocasio-Cortez made protecting the working class and the poor her top priority. A week after being sworn in ("inaugurated" in her words), it was reported that her campaign had been fined for failure to pay state-mandated workers compensation coverage for campaign workers. She paid a $1500 fine, which of course was less than the cost of complying with the law.<ref>https://www.syracuse.com/politics/2019/01/ny-fines-ocasio-cortezs-campaign-for-failing-to-carry-workers-comp-coverage.html Even though a fine can equal the cost of back payments, it does not include interest and penalties or the labor cost of accounting and legal fees to insure compliance.</ref>
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) filed a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics over Ocasio-Cortez' use of taxpayer dollars to raise campaign funds.<ref>C.
