Neue Galerie. According to press reports, in 2006, the portrait was sold for US$135 millions to Ronald S. Lauder. Since that time, the painting has been on display at the Neue Galerie in New York City (at Fifth Avenue and 86th Street). This operation has made this Klimt's work the most expensive painting ever sold.

The portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer, the wife of a Jewish sugar industrialist Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer and the hostess of a prominent Vienna salon, is considered one of the artist's masterpieces. Adele Bloch-Bauer became the only model who was painted twice by Klimt when he completed a second picture of her, Adele Bloch-Bauer II, in 1912. [1]
