In 1919, a series of bombings were attempted and carried out by anarchist followers of Luigi Galleani from April to June 1919.

Prominent figures were targeted during this time, such as governor Theodore G. Bilbo, Anthony Caminetti, Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr, William H. King, and governor William Cameron Sproul.

These bombings led to the first Red Scare.
