Protest edit of Ultramontane vs Gallican. It is not simply birth control (which is controversial as to being an ex cathedra dogma) but papal infallibility that find dissent, and not simply by laity. The edit is thus inaccurate.[[User:Daniel1212|Daniel1212]] 17:39, 2 October 2009 (EDT) | Protest edit of Ultramontane vs Gallican. A couple questions: 1. Are other Rites within the Catholic Church also considered to be Roman Catholic? The opening paragraph suggests so, but I don't think so. 2. Do most Protestant churches recognize Penance as a sacrament, like the closing paragraph suggests? I was under the impression that most Protestant churches just had two sacraments--Baptism and Eucharist/Communion. Also, regarding Peter, I think it would be better to say that Peter's authority derives from Jesus giving him the keys to the kingdom and building the Church upon him (Matthew 16:18) and not simply because he was the leader of the apostles. (In Acts, his role isn't as central as, say, James or Paul.) Kolbe 23:43, 17 March 2007 (EDT)
- 1. The Latin Rite, which is the largest, is sometimes called the Roman Catholic Church, particularly by Protestants. There are a number of other Rites within the Catholic Church, such as the Ukranian Rite, the Maronites, the Copts, and the Syrian Rite, which also hold the Pope to be the universal pastor. Catholics hold that little remains to prevent communion between themselves and the Eastern Orthodox Churches (Russian, Greek, Serbian, etc.).
- 2. The Anglo-Catholic and most Lutheran Churches hold to some form of Penance as it is practiced in the RCC. Some Lutheran Churches have a formal rite where parishoners confess their sins to each other on the altar. Most Protestant Churches profess the sacraments of Baptism and Lord's Supper, but in practice regard these as ordinances.Teresita 21:16, 2 April 2007 (EDT)
