According to Newcastle University, "The aim of applied biology is to use basic knowledge of biology for practical purposes. This requires a sound understanding of how organisms function." [1]

According to Miami University's information on about their Applied Biology major: "Applied Biology major focuses on the practical uses of basic biological information within two thematic concentrations: Environmental Biology and Human Biology & Health Sciences."[2]
