William Donald Schaefer

William Donald Schaefer (b. 1921) served as an elected public official in Maryland for over 50 years, including powerful positions as the mayor of Baltimore (1971-1987), the Governor of Maryland (1987-1995) and the Comptroller of Maryland (1999-2007). He was a working-class Democrat who expressed conservative views on social issues.
He appointed several judges on the Maryland Court of Appeals, its highest court.
