Templates

Hey, Greg! Welcome to CP.

Those templates you made need to be documented. On the Template page, there is info on that, and how to do it. Thanks! --Sysop-TK /MyTalk 13:04, 13 June 2007 (EDT)

I will do that. Greg 13:06, 13 June 2007 (EDT)
Where is the Template page? Greg 13:07, 13 June 2007 (EDT)
  • In the box above, to the right, dude. :-) Click on Templates! If you need more help, let me know or post on PhilipR's page...he's whiz at it! Have fun at camp, btw!--Sysop-TK /MyTalk 13:15, 13 June 2007 (EDT)
Thanks! I wasn't looking in the "help" pages, which would seem like the right place to look! Greg 13:16, 13 June 2007 (EDT)

Actually, the current instructions say that user boxes are an exception to the rule; they don't need to be documented like other templates, although we might reconsider that to document user boxes assigning categories to pages. Philip J. Rayment 22:53, 13 June 2007 (EDT)

Neither of my userboxes had categories, but I created the documentation anyway. Greg 22:56, 13 June 2007 (EDT)

Article Talk Pages

Hi Greg,

When possible, please put thoughts or concerns on article changes into the article talk pages. Writing a concern on Andy's talk page to request a change is considered to be poor etiquette. Thanks Learn together 21:50, 24 July 2007 (EDT)

  • "This user has not specified a valid e-mail address, or has chosen not to receive e-mail from other users." categorizing articles

Hi Greg,

It looks like you're creating a lot of articles, which is probably a good thing. :) Would you please take a moment to categorize each one as you do? Otherwise, myself or someone else will go along behind you and add one or more categories, but we don't necessarily have the expertise to categorize your articles accurately. Plus, it's much less efficient. Thanks! Aziraphale 02:03, 2 August 2007 (EDT)

Sure, I'll start doing that. Greg 15:30, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
Is there a list of categories somewhere? I see User:BrianCo and you have been categorizing a lot of my articles. I'd like to return the favor and add categories to articles that are missing them, but I don't know what the categories are. Anywhere I can go to find a list? Greg 15:42, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
Nevermind, I did some looking around and found it. Greg 15:46, 2 August 2007 (EDT)

Re-directs

We do not allow editors to decide on their own to re-direct any article they so choose. Kindly check with a Admin before doing so, okay? Better idea would be for you to be prepared to recommend articles needing to be deleted, yes? --şŷŝôρ-₮KṢρёаќǃ 07:03, 2 August 2007 (EDT)

The template had the person's name spelled wrong, unless it is referring to another character not listed in my Iliad. I just sent it to the right page. Do I need to delete the redirect? Greg 15:32, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
  • I was talking about the Lend-Lease mess. Always check with a sysop before doing those sorts of things, unless it has to do with articles you create, and even then, wouldnt it be better to just ask a sysop to delete the mis-spelled page, rather than do a re-direct? --şŷŝôρ-₮KṢρёаќǃ 15:35, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
Ah, I see. There wasn't a misspelled page for the template, I created the page the other night. Would you be able to edit the template so it goes to Pandarus instead of Panadaros, or however it's spelled there? And then, if you need to, delete Panadaros. Or you could keep the redirect, I'm not sure if anything links there.
As for the lend-lease, I was fixing a double redirect. Office of Lend-Lease Administration redirected to Lend-Lease, which redirected to Lend-Lease Act. Whenever I'm on Conservapedia and can't come up with article ideas, I've fixed double redirects. Is that something I shouldn't mess with? Greg 15:40, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
  • Perhaps you should be asking. Perhaps it is better to simply delete some of them, eh? we have lots of parody and subtle vandalism here, and I wouldn't want you to become suspect in your motives by some others. Always wise to check first....it doesn't delay your good works by much.  :) --şŷŝôρ-₮KṢρёаќǃ 16:07, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
I'll do that in the future. Where do I ask? Just on the article's talk page? Greg 16:08, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
  • That is fine..if no answer post on mine, and I will round up the main editor of the article! DanH is around often as well, as is TerryH or RobS. --şŷŝôρ-₮KṢρёаќǃ 18:27, 2 August 2007 (EDT)

Just checking in.....

I hope school and everything else is going good! :D --şŷŝôρ-₮KṢρёаќǃ 23:25, 27 September 2007 (EDT)

It isn't going too badly... just very time-consuming! I signed up for an AP Comparative Government class that is taught before school, so now I have even more to do! Oh well... Greg 19:56, 29 September 2007 (EDT)

CO

Yeah that was my mistake (kinda). I got a weird glitch in the server - where it marked CO as having added the "I'm Done" section FIRST - I'm aware that he re-added it at one point, but I went back to see who was the first person to add it - and for some reason CO's name was there. I've double checked now though, and I see that it was Porthos - hmmm, well sorry for that - I unblocked him as soon as I found out.--IDuan 19:37, 30 September 2007 (EDT)

I was watching the Recent Changes page, saw him add it back in, then you block him. It's no problem, glad you caught it. Greg 19:39, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
  • CO was welcomed by me and Andy! Thank you for taking care of it so promptly! --şŷŝôρ-₮KṢρёаќǃ 19:52, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
    • Haha, sure, although I was the one that failed to recognize the glitch. I now see what happened - for some reason half of the div page didn't load when I went back - so I saw the edit attributed to the guy who made the subsequent edit (if that makes sense). Again, sorry--IDuan 19:54, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
I was watching the Recent Changes log, and saw him create an account. Greg 19:53, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
Amazing effort, Greg! Our hats are off to you tonight! Godspeed.--Aschlafly 22:37, 30 September 2007 (EDT)

I just thought I'd check recent changes, and let those in the contest earn their points. I appreciate my banhammer barnstar! Greg 18:27, 3 October 2007 (EDT)
  • Hey, please let Admins add the welcome template, ok?
Sure thing, I just figured it was something the people in the contest wouldn't want to worry about, but I'll let you handle it. Greg 19:35, 4 October 2007 (EDT)
  • Thanks, Greg. Another Admin tried to IM you, but you were not on AIM, and I figured you were trying to help. It's just that if you welcome too fast, they could be a troll or worse, until they are checked out. --şŷŝôρ-₮K/Ṣρёаќǃ 21:00, 4 October 2007 (EDT)
Sorry I'm not online, I've been watching the UK football game. I've generally been watching the first few edits of the users I welcome. Greg 21:34, 4 October 2007 (EDT)

Images

You were given upload rights for your own use, not to upload images for whoever asked for it. This has previously been made clear. Cease and desist immediately. You must notify an administrator when you upload anything, so it can be immediately protected! You did this on my own talk page recently, but when doing it for others, you haven't? --şŷŝôρ-₮K/Ṣρёаќǃ 18:01, 15 October 2007 (EDT)

I was uploading several last night, and was going to give you a list when I'd finished, but I had to get off in a hurry before I was able to do so. I will send you a list now. Greg 18:03, 15 October 2007 (EDT)
You cannot upload pictures for anyone else but yourself. Baseball ring a bell? Did you email the list? --şŷŝôρ-₮K/Ṣρёаќǃ 18:24, 15 October 2007 (EDT)
I was unaware of this restriction. Won't happen again. Greg 18:25, 15 October 2007 (EDT)

Sorry to hear that. I'm glad you caught it, though, and the images were protected. Greg 17:47, 16 October 2007 (EDT)

Frank Lasee

Sorry, Greg, but Frank Lasee is a Wisconsin State Assemblyman, not a United States Congressman. He expressed an interest in running for Congress in Wisconsin's 8th Congressional district, but he does not hold that seat. He holds the seat in the State Assembly, representing the Second Assembly District, and is a resident of Bellevue, WI--hence the reference in the Gazette interview to "State Rep. Frank Lesee, R-Bellevue."--TerryHTalk 22:11, 23 October 2007 (EDT)

I was running down through the uncategorized article list, and saw the word "Representative" and just made an assumption. I'll correct this now. Thanks for catching it! Greg 22:12, 23 October 2007 (EDT)

Country maps

Here's the link I used: [2] Unless otherwise stated, all of them are public domain, and most are from the CIA.

What I did was take the latest shaded relief maps available, removed the edges all around up to the black border using the "paint" program (in case of .gif images I renamed them to .jpeg), and uploaded them to the proper categories.

What I'm looking for, and I'm sure you'll agree with me, is a standard for all country articles. Look at Portugal for example. There's a layout that's essentially "fill in the blanks" that could be used in other articles; the heading of the infobox is the country's name in their own language; and we have the flag and arms images. What do you think? Karajou 19:46, 27 October 2007 (EDT)

Thanks!

I've been trying to figure out that problem for six months! Rob Smith 20:57, 28 October 2007 (EDT)

No problem! Can you delete the page I made, since it serves no purpose now? Greg 20:58, 28 October 2007 (EDT)

Categories.....

Since you have an interest in them, and have done a great deal of work on them I was unaware of, perhaps you could take a look at the category discussion accessed from my user page, and bring yourself up to date with the discussion, and make some suggestions?

There is a daunting task with correcting all that needs to be corrected, and still much consolidation to be done, to make searches run smoothly, and I would sincerely appreciate your help! --şyŝoρ-₮K/Ṣρёаќǃ 20:13, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

Sure thing, I'll take a look at that now. Greg 20:14, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

Question Regarding Copying

I noticed you blocked Oppp for copying information, but I see a user named Karajou copying vast amounts of info from traveldocs.com (someone called it plagiarism [3]). Is there a right or wrong way of copying info? Or, do you know someone who I can ask so I don't end up blocked? Thanks. LardoBolger 13:37, 3 November 2007 (EDT)

It's okay to copy information from government sources, because that information is paid for by public tax money (see the owner of the site's comments here). Copying information from private websites (as Oppp did) is plagiarism. If you're going to copy information, make sure it is in the public domain, and be sure to provide a cite, as Karajou has done (see this edit, where he privides copyright details at the bottom of the page). Hope this helps. Greg 13:41, 3 November 2007 (EDT)
I see, thanks! LardoBolger 13:50, 3 November 2007 (EDT)

Vandal

(Sorry to clutter up your nice clean talk page!) Thanks for blocking him. I shoulda gone with my gut instinct instead of being the nice guy :) HelpJazz 23:21, 4 November 2007 (EST)

I probably would have done the same, it is sometimes difficult to tell when users are trolling or simply have a different point of view. Greg 23:26, 4 November 2007 (EST)

  • Greg you beat me to the last several vandals by seconds! I had to find a way to beat you to them, fair or unfair!  :p --şyŝoρ-₮K/Ṣρёаќǃ 00:08, 5 November 2007 (EST)

Schultz Template....

Would you please tell me who you discussed the removal of Schultz's template with before doing so? If you did not ask, or were not told to remove it, kindly put it back, ASAP. I have restored his template, and you will now undo any other changes you did without discussion. Thanks. --şyŝoρ-₮K/Ṣρёаќǃ 08:53, 13 November 2007 (EST)

I removed it because it was sending 100 legitimate articles to the 'articles for deletion' category. Greg 16:50, 13 November 2007 (EST)

Well, I restored the template, and I am not seeing any added to AFD. How would that happen? --şyŝoρ-₮K/Ṣρёаќǃ 17:23, 13 November 2007 (EST)

The template was deleted, but it was simply a copy of the {{delete}} template. I just what you created, nice job with that, looks nice! Greg 17:24, 13 November 2007 (EST)
Also, perhaps you could add [[Category:Agriculture]] to the template, so that it would automatically categorize all articles it is placed in? Greg 17:26, 13 November 2007 (EST)
Great, thanks. I'll get to work on putting the template in wherever it is appropriate. Greg 19:31, 13 November 2007 (EST)

All right, I'll do that in the future. Thanks! Greg 18:45, 21 November 2007 (EST)

Jonah article

The idea is to do a chapter by chapter series of articles on the whole Bible, and Jonah is a start; but it's still experimental, so its going to be limited to Jonah, ch.1. The idea I have for it is to have some sort of brief commentary to start it off, possibly including factual evidence (in Jonah's case, Ninevah; similar fish tales, etc), but specific for that chapter. The remainder would have the text of the chapter itself. I already have four translations; there should be the ancient ones, plus what is familiar to us.

But it's experimental for now; other issues could shelve the project, such as size of ach one, or if CP becomes a Bible-wiki of sorts. Karajou 07:50, 29 November 2007 (EST)

Exam

"Greg", I don't know if you've left yet, but I'm increasingly skeptical of your 34/35 exam paper and your claim to credit a "liberal" teacher. I'll give you an opportunity to retract it gracefully or give me the name of your high school teacher so I can personally congratulate him. I expect you'll be doing the former, or leaving this site. Thanks and Godspeed.--Aschlafly 15:53, 2 December 2007 (EST)

Mr. Schafly, I do not understand the reason my score is doubted. I used no dishonest methods to obtain the score, and do not wish to retract it. While my teacher describes himself as a "yellow dog Democrat," he is always sure to warn us when he is telling us fact, and when he is stating opinion. Regardless of his political affiliation, he is undoubtedly one of the best teachers I have ever had. I will speak with him today, though I doubt he is able to contact anyone other than my parents about me. I have a busy afternoon after school, but will either attempt to have him contact you, or update you on the situation late tonight. Thanks, Greg 07:11, 5 December 2007 (EST)
I don't buy it. I compared the 34 answers that you got right to the one you missed and it doesn't make sense to me. It would be like someone solving numerous difficult integrals yet missing a question about 2+2=4. Your explanation for this implausibility also struck me as a bit too cute. And what are the odds that are actually taking a government class that covered the same material by November? Slim to none, in my view.--Aschlafly 17:01, 8 December 2007 (EST)
I must have misread the question or answer choices, as it really was a fairly simple question. As for the calculus metaphor, I did not earn a perfect score on a recent calculus test because I randomly changed a sign while taking a derivative! I am not immune to making simple mistakes from time to time.
My mentioning that my teacher was a liberal was not offered as an explanation for my error; regardless of someone's political affiliation, they would not teach that the Supreme Courts' deference to the President on foreign policy was an example of checks and balances. An example of the separation of powers, but certainly not a "check" or "balance."
As for your class and my class covering the same material, I would think that should be somewhat expected. I assume that your class is AP-level, as your userpage indicates the extremely high level of coursework you demand from your students, as well as their remarkable scores on standardized tests. If this is the case, then the two classes are designed for the same exam, and overlapping content would make sense. I have also previously covered some of the information in my AP US History course with the same teacher.
I apologize for my delayed responses, finals are coming up soon and school has therefore begun to take up an incredible amount of time. When the semester is over, I hope to be able to return to Conservapedia and re-earn any trust I may have lost. I have enjoyed my time here as an editor and reader, and have learned a great deal. I would like to direct you here, where you told me not to "read a book to learn, but write a book to learn." While here I have done just that, and thank you for allowing me the opportunity to do so. Greg 20:22, 10 December 2007 (EST)
"Greg", you've haven't convinced me one bit. I know that liberals take delight in deceit. I've given you an opportunity to call off the prank, celebrate however you like, and admit the truth. That's for your sake, not mine. The truth shall set you free. It's worked wonders for me and everyone who gives the truth a chance.--Aschlafly 21:06, 10 December 2007 (EST)
