In responce to your e-mail:

I've unblocked you

If you give me a better-sounding name, such as Meindert, I can move your account for you and you can then log in under the new name with the same profile and password (which I never see). But if you set up the name first, then I cannot move to it God bless,

Andy

You can change my name to Meindert if feel it is for the best.

Thanks! Meindert

Done! Thank you!--Aschlafly 21:55, 12 January 2008 (EST)

Theories of prosecution

Andy, Shaken Baby Syndrome isn't the only sort of mandatory reporting requirement doctors have to comply with, is it? Can we do an article which sums them all up? Or includes other things that "child protective services" can do without even a trial?

There's the case of a scientist out in the midwest who visited New Jersey and let his 12-year-old watch the rest of the kids in the car. Then CPS found this out and took all his kids! If he didn't have money and good connections, those kids would have gone straight to foster care.

The really interesting thing about the scientist is that he's the man behind the Oregon Petition on global warming. His biography would make a good article: Arthur Robinson. --Ed Poor Talk 21:19, 12 January 2008 (EST)

That would be great to have more entries about this, Ed! I know of several abusive child protective services' actions.--Aschlafly 21:55, 12 January 2008 (EST)

Well, it's not perfect

Hey Andy, I just wanted to show you this ((Conservapedia:Contest4/Wanted)) - I tried my best, it's not perfect I don't think - but 99.9% of it is right--IDuan 23:29, 12 January 2008 (EST)

It's great. There is one more on the current list than what you have, but I don't know which one and don't worry about it. I'll do a screen save in case anyone gets caught up by the one extra one, and we can address it then.--Aschlafly 23:31, 12 January 2008 (EST)
Found it! I somehow missed Don Batten ...--IDuan 23:37, 12 January 2008 (EST)
Awesome work! Now get some rest soon for an early start tomorrow. :-) --Aschlafly 23:45, 12 January 2008 (EST)
Hey if you're going to be up I plan to start tonight at midnight - I already have a quality article, a few quality edits, a few minor edits, and others I'm prepared to go in with! All I have to do is hit save at midnight :D--IDuan 23:47, 12 January 2008 (EST)
OK, you can have until 12:10 am New York time. After that, get some rest for an early start tomorrow. :-)--Aschlafly 23:52, 12 January 2008 (EST)
Excellent - that should be all I need, and then I can just write articles outside till it's my bed time (my job/school requires me to have a strange sleeping schedule - I usually get home at around 10 at night, then I'm up till four getting the only P.C. time i have at home, sleep till 12, then get ready and go to work :D). Haha, maybe I can try and win the contest in one day!--IDuan 23:54, 12 January 2008 (EST)
That would be great! Hey, instead of staying up until 4 and sleeping til 12, about about staying up until 12 and sleeping only til 8? Just a suggestion. I gave the late hours as a New Year's Resolution. :-)--Aschlafly 23:59, 12 January 2008 (EST)
Alright - I'll definitely try that out! Although, you might want me to wait until next week, as that gives me less time on the computer - and this week we got ourselves a contest to win :D--IDuan 00:01, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Team pick

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Let's show Team Nameless (apologies, but I couldn't resist) how to get this done right :) --Jenkins 11:18, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Don't follow you, Jenkins. Our name has been "Team Freedom" since last night. Does that need to be updated somewhere so you can see it? Welcome.--Aschlafly 11:41, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Your Page

Andy, I'm not sure what your feelings are on this subject - but you might want to delete and recreate your talk page due to the vulgarity of Echew's edit (I hesitate to link it here given the traffic this page gets - but it's high up in your history - you can't miss it)--IDuan 11:33, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Rarely does someone look at page histories for a talk page, so I probably won't bother. If the vulgar vandal has nothing better to do and insists in his trespassing and obscenities here, then we can easily pull his IP's and report him to the appropriate local and federal law-enforcement authorities. Thanks for your quick blocks.--Aschlafly 11:40, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Night

Hey Andy, I don't mean to pressure you or anything, but for most of this week I'll be working (at Starbucks - hey, what's a college kid supposed to do?), which doesn't have internet access computers (I don't have a laptop). Therefore, a lot of my editing will be restricted, and I was wondering for, even if just for these 5 days only, you could grant me night editing so my edit points don't decline seriously. Thanks so much for the consideration, --IDuan 13:03, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Yes

Wow, well it was a lot of redundancy - but I think it was worth it. I just created two templates and went over all the renaissance terms to add them - and that gave me a boat load of points. Example page. I might do that for every history term page we have if that's ok with you, that way we can have the history term template on all those. I suppose that if I try I can get enough points today so that I won't really have to edit over the weekdays, although again, if you could grant me night so I can edit on the week days I'd really appreciate it. I'll hold off going on the templates until you ok it--IDuan 13:40, 13 January 2008 (EST)

I don't know about that "boat load of points." I see some improvement but there is a "churning" effect to those edits. I think those points will have to discounted because they don't yield the full benefits of an expected edit. So feel free to continue, but I expect a judge to multiple those particular points by a discounting fraction. Ditto for anything similar done by our opponents. Godspeed.--Aschlafly 13:46, 13 January 2008 (EST)
Ok, yeah that's fair enough, although at the same time there's not exactly a precedent for not counting points for putting templates into articles. And obviously don't worry about the night things then - I'll just do whatever I can today, Saturday and maybe early Sunday if I can.--IDuan 13:48, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Andy could you unlock Template:Australian Prime Ministers so I can make a tech edit to it - I'm just going to make the columns the same width--IDuan 14:05, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Me? Which one of my edits was reverted? BertSchlossberg 14:53, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Rights

Hello Mr. Schlafly,

If I could have night edit and upload rights for the contest, I would be appreciative… --MakeTomorrow 17:02, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Andy, I would also appreciate the ability to upload images. I understand if you'd rather wait-and-see for a little longer; please do not feel pressured. However, I think I could improve some of my already-written articles with images, if you'd not mind.-MexMax 18:16, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Well since everyone's asking here I might as well join in. Andy, I'd like to ask for sysop rights so that I can protect Conservapedia from vandalism by quickly deleting pages, improve grammar in protected articles and edit the template space without having to burden other users with unprotecting templates no matter how small an edit I make.--IDuan 19:16, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Oh, and last thing, if you disagree with me, if you could just get on AIM and discuss with me so I could have some idea of what I need to improve on I'd appreciate it.--IDuan 19:39, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Hello? --MakeTomorrow 19:41, 13 January 2008 (EST)

This all reminds me, I'd like to request night editing rights also, but I'm not familiar with your policies on that and how much of a contributer you need to be. --Liam Spencer 19:53, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Andy, I just want to give it one last go, if you're on, I really do need to talk to you on AIM about the sysop rights, I just would like to discuss (obviously in private) where you think I need to go as a user--IDuan 23:07, 13 January 2008 (EST)
Iduan, unfortunately I don't have time right now and am not accustomed to using AIM. Perhaps more importantly, as I've repeatedly said here, additional editing and Sysop privileges are earned and generally based on a review of substantive edits by additional people other than myself. They have nothing to do with contests. Your work will be assessed and you'll receive whatever privileges are earned. Thanks and Godspeed.--Aschlafly 23:10, 13 January 2008 (EST)
I didn't think I mentioned any contest ... but ok--IDuan 23:15, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Do you prefer that court cases not be bolded as article titles? Are there any other types of articles that should not be bolded?

Thanks Learn together 22:42, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Oh, I see now. You must have bolded my italics. Actually, I thought it looked fine, but I just changed it out of force of habit. It's fine if you think the bolding looks nicer. Godspeed.--Aschlafly 22:44, 13 January 2008 (EST)
Thanks Andy. It seems to be the standard that we've moved into over time. I didn't want to step on your toes of course, after all, it was your work that created the article and it is your site. ;-) Learn together 23:41, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Request for name change

Hello. Since you are a bureaucrat, please could you rename my account to User:Walton One? (I realise you are the site founder and probably very busy; I wanted to ask User:SharonS, who appears to be the only other active bureaucrat, but her talk page has been locked to prevent editing.) From my experience of Wikipedia, I presume it is possible here for bureaucrats to rename user accounts (since this is a standard feature of the MediaWiki software). If it isn't possible, then don't worry (I'll just create a new account instead).

My reason for requesting the name change is that I am an active editor on many other wiki sites (and an administrator on the English Wikipedia) and I wish to use the same username on all sites. (This diff provides verification that I am the same user as Walton One on Wikipedia.)

Thank you in advance for your assistance. Palace1 17:16, 14 January 2008 (EST)

It seems that every time I post something on the site, I cannot post anything else until 24 hours after the event. It tells me that the page is protected. This even includes my own talk page, profile page, and other unblocked areas of the site.

Is there any explanation or fix to the problem? CodyH

Have you read the Editor's guide linked from the Welcome box on your talk page? It mentions that editing is often turned off overnight U.S. time. Perhaps this is the problem you are running in to. Philip J. Rayment 19:35, 17 January 2008 (EST)

Grading question

Hey there, Team Captain...

I'm not sure how to grade my recent edit(s), so maybe you (and/or the judges) can help me out. I just invested a bit more than three hours into converting Image:Periodic table.jpg into this wikitable (completely from scratch). It was a lot of work, it uses a self-made template, but I think it falls out of the regular grading scheme (no real sentences, no references, no new facts per se, but there was still major effort and development behind it). I guess I'll mark it under a "Special case" on my Contest page until there is some sort of consensus/opinion on how to treat this. --Jenkins 19:56, 17 January 2008 (EST)

I can't speak for our captain, but as a member of the opposition, I'd certainly support that it is deserving of a high point tally :) 10px Fox (talk|contribs) 20:00, 17 January 2008 (EST)

Sudden Jihad Syndrome and Wikipedia

Andy, here's a possible addition for Example of Bias in Wikipedia: Wikipedia has refused to allow any article on Sudden Jihad Syndrome even though this topic has been talked about by important commentators like Daniel Pipes topic [2] [3] and even refused to let an editor work on a draft for a rewrite of the article.[4] SkipJohnson 20:26, 17 January 2008 (EST)

Do you think this is worth adding to our list of examples of bias in Wikipedia? SkipJohnson 21:20, 17 January 2008 (EST)
Maybe. I'd like to hear any comments by others, or would like to consider this further myself. It's an interesting suggestion but this "bias" is not as clearcut and encyclopedic as our other examples.--Aschlafly 21:29, 17 January 2008 (EST)
Yes, I see the problem. I'm beginning to think that there's a lot of subtle liberal POV in what articles Wikipedia keeps and which it deletes. I'm looking at a variety of examples now. It seems that when liberal subjects want their articles deleted, they get them deleted but when conservatives or neoconservatives want their articles deleted they don't. For example, the entry on Rachel Marsden, a Canadian conservative with neo-conservative leanings has not been deleted and is full of gossip about her despite repeated requests by her and attempts to get it deleted. In contrast, Seth Finkelstein, a liberal, and Daniel Brandt, another liberal were both able to get their articles deleted. Bias in the deletion policies does not jump out as much because the regular joes like you and me can look to see what got deleted. SkipJohnson 21:50, 17 January 2008 (EST)
That is clearcut bias. Notice also how conservatives will have silly redirects on Wikipedia for their entries (e.g., Judie Brown), while liberals won't. Both of these (failure to delete and redirects) should be new points. I'll unlock the page if you'd like to make these points at the top of Bias in Wikipedia.--Aschlafly 22:22, 17 January 2008 (EST)
(Note: I de-<ref>'d the first post because Andy's talkpage doesn't have a References section)
While I haven't fully read through all linked sources, it appears that aside from Daniel Pipes, nobody actually uses the term, especially not to describe all the examples. And that also seems to be why WP deleted the article(s). The only instances where I saw it used was by Daniel Pipes and by some article that basically said "Daniel Pipes called it SJS". The vast majority of sources apparently does not mention the "Sudden Jihad Syndrome" at all.
If we had a vote about deleting this article, I'd also vote for deletion. I don't think any encyclopedia is a good place to effectively advertise terms that only one person on this planet uses (to be extreme), even if that person happens to be "neoconservative academic Daniel Pipes". And that goes double when said term leads to conclusions like "due to this phenomenon all Muslims must be considered potential terrorists".
That being said, I guess the article might stand on CP (where the "original research" and "reliable sources" rules are more relaxed), but I really wouldn't call it bias that WP deleted the article. --Jenkins 22:20, 17 January 2008 (EST)
No, our rules are not "more relaxed." Wikipedia simply enforces its rules selectively to advance the liberal agenda of the vast majority of its editors.--Aschlafly 22:22, 17 January 2008 (EST)
(Andy, I moved your reply because I think that was a reply to Skip. If I'm wrong, move it back)
Erm, yeah. I'm not going to comment about what apparently passes as an acceptable source on CP... But about rules and their application: Since we also have non-relaxed rules, what is your suggestion about the SJS article? It cites articles that don't even mention SJS as proof that some people have it. And the term is only used by Pipes, it seems. No other source apparently seriously adopted it. --Jenkins 22:31, 17 January 2008 (EST)

If you'd unlock the page I'll add both points. Thanks! SkipJohnson 22:43, 17 January 2008 (EST)

Done. (Actually, it wasn't locked!)--Aschlafly 22:53, 17 January 2008 (EST)
Thanks Andy! I added the point about SJS. You should probably add something about the redirecting since I don't know much about it. I am seeing a definite pattern in which articles they delete though. Seth Finkelstein- liberal and deleted. Don Murphy, liberal Hollywood movie producer- they removed much information about him because he requested it. Daniel Brandt- a liberal critic of their's- took a while but his article was deleted. But Rachel Marsden and other conservatives who don't want articles are out of luck. You should take a look at their article on her. It is a real nasty hit piece. SkipJohnson 23:11, 17 January 2008 (EST)
Thanks much. I will check out Wikipedia's entry on Rachel Marsden. Wikipedia's determination to smear people it does not like for political reasons is disgraceful.--Aschlafly 23:25, 17 January 2008 (EST)

Please could you or another sysop unlock the Fred Phelps article? There's a fairly strong consensus on the talk page that the current lead section needs some rewriting. The page hasn't been a major target of vandalism or trolling, so I'm not totally sure why it's locked at present. Walton One 13:17, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Propose on the talk page what you want to change. Out of over 21,000 entries here, why the interest that particular entry???--Aschlafly 13:27, 19 January 2008 (EST)
If you look at the talk page, there's a general consensus that he should not be described as a "leftist". The only source for describing him as a leftist is one journalist's opinion, which seeks to infer this from the fact that he is a registered Democrat and once ran for the Democrat nomination for governor of Kansas (neither of which make him a leftist). As Conservapedia:Guidelines states: We should not allow any and all citations to newspaper stories. Journalistic opinions are not authorities. Phelps is neither a leftist nor a rightist (indeed he seems to have annoyed all parts of the political spectrum equally; the left with his hatred of homosexuals, the right with his anti-patriotism and behaviour at military funerals). His ideas aren't coherent enough to fit anywhere on the political spectrum. So describing him unequivocally as a leftist is, I feel, an assertion which should not be presented as fact. (For the record I am a conservative, as are most of the editors who have participated in the discussion. I just believe that we should try not to present opinions as facts.) Walton One 13:38, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Andy, can you look at Congressional Page. I just wrote it, and given the controversy over the scandals mentioned, I think it's best if you make sure I handled them well.--IDuan 15:30, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Thanks for taking a look - wow that grammatical mistake is embarrassing ... idk how that happened ... but thanks again!--IDuan 15:46, 19 January 2008 (EST)

2 Request

Andy - can you move this page to C plus plus? That way we can let people access it (because, if you remember C++ doesn't work). Thanks!--IDuan 16:33, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Sorry to bother you like this, but last thing: I was going to create a template that would allow non-sysops to put a notice on pages that need to be moved - and I just wanted to make sure you were ok with that. (I already have the design set up, so as soon as you ok this it's a easy 3 points :D)--IDuan 17:42, 19 January 2008 (EST)
OK on the template. On C++, just copy its contents into C plus plus.--Aschlafly 18:35, 19 January 2008 (EST)
Hey, sorry for the late response ... that I'm using to thank you for the quick response. I wanted to get a lot done (including changing a bunch of pages that had Category:Colleges and Universities to have Category:Universities and making 2 NCAA list that took me forever). But yeah, I'm actually going to take a break - because after this I can't go much more, but when I come back I'll try to find more edits to make and hopefully we can pull off the comeback!--IDuan 19:45, 19 January 2008 (EST)
OK, see you in a little while!--Aschlafly 19:56, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Just to keep you up to date - I made the first challenge--IDuan 22:05, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Note

Alright Andy, I'm going to be back @ 11:30 to help out more - and just a suggestion: if you run out of article ideas, you could try creating pages for universities (for example: University of Connecticut). On second thought - have you ever run out of article ideas? lol--IDuan 22:48, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Can you unlock Template:Book so I can move it right? Thanks so much--IDuan 23:25, 19 January 2008 (EST)
Ok, you can reprotect it now, thank you very much!--IDuan 23:38, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Oh, and Template:Scientology is really out of date - about half the links are deleted, can you unprotect that also? Again, thanks--IDuan 23:45, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Done. There is about 10 minutes left tonight, then we start early tomorrow.--Aschlafly 00:13, 20 January 2008 (EST)
Ok, I'm done. Sorry, I won't be here tomorrow - but maybe you and MexMax can handle it, good luck! and thanks for the unrptoection!--IDuan 00:15, 20 January 2008 (EST)

Your latest addition to the school prayer article...

...isn't really about prayer, so it's a bit out of place. I myself avoided a couple of incidents like that because they weren't about prayer. Perhaps we need a wider-ranged article about religion in public schools. Jinxmchue 11:13, 20 January 2008 (EST)

Contest 4

Congratulations!!! --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 12:08, 20 January 2008 (EST)

Well, looks like our team was defeated, but hey - you did an extremely good job, Andy - that's a great point total. There must be some kind of curse on you - because I just realized you're 0-3 in the last contest, lol, "The Andy Curse". Haha, well hey, there's always next time,--IDuan 12:18, 20 January 2008 (EST)
I don't I've won one of these contests yet! But let's see what the judges have to say before declaring a winner here. :-) --Aschlafly 12:53, 20 January 2008 (EST)
Hey - sounds good to me lol, I know there are a few things that do need to be resolved before the winner is figured out--IDuan 13:06, 20 January 2008 (EST)
