A Little About Me
|
- I am here as an experiment, mostly to create/edit articles related to astronomy, geography, and history with astronomy getting the bulk of my attention. If there is a star or other astronomical phenomenon or concept you would like to suggest needs an article, please drop me a line!
- I suppose in many ways I could be labeled as a conservative, although I avoid labeling myself in such a manner. I am financially and economically conservative in the sense I believe strongly in capitalism, the free market, and very small, unobtrusive government. However I am not what some people label a "social conservative" or a "religious conservative". On social issues I tend to lean center-left, as I believe strongly in individual liberty and I am extremely anti-authoritarian, including religious authoritarianism. The user box explains most of the rest about me. I will emphasize my absolute support for the first amendment of free speech, assembly, press, and religion (including no religion). Also a big supporter of keeping religion and government separate.
Humbling thought
- We are clever apes that manage, despite all our problems, to become the dominate life after 4.5 billion years on this planet, the Earth. However our world is nothing more then a blue dot, a speck really, orbiting an unremarkable star, one of billions in an average galaxy, itself a speck among billions moving silently in the vastness of the universe. We are very fortunate that we exist at all, individually and as a species. Our lives are special and it is up to us to give them meaning, because we get only one chance in this brief lifetime of awareness and then we are gone, our atoms scattered once again.
- "We are a way for the cosmos to know itself" - Carl Sagan
- "I find it elevating and exhilarating to discover that we live in a universe, which permits the evolution of molecular machines as intricate and subtle as we" - Carl Sagan
- "I'm this guy standing on a planet, really I'm just a speck. Compared with a star, the planet is just another speck. To think about all of this, to think about the vast emptiness of space. There's billions and billions of stars. Billions and billions of specks" - Bill Nye
Black Hole
- I would love to contribute to the Black Hole page, but in all honestly, it is D.O.A. Any attempt to add scientific information (complete with references), and exclude irrelevant information on the subject is ruthlessly suppressed and reverted. The powers that be have deemed that Black Holes don't actually exist and have made sure that their view is the only view. Even though we have ample evidence to the contrary[1][2][3][4][5], even if those who argue counter to this know exactly what they are talking about,[6] the minds of those in charge are closed like a steel trap. I don't understand the reasons why, it seems tied to their dislike for the Theory of Relativity, which in itself is treated with disdain for what appears as religious reasons and motivations, and no, that doesn't make any sense.
