Talk:Shirley Sherrod
Looks like everyone ganged up on Sherrod, as if they were in a rush to make the evening news. Three conservatives initially condemned her as a racist, apparently unaware that the clip had omitted Sherrod's remark about having learned from her mistake.
The NAACP jumped on the bandwagon, and the federal government made her leave her job, also apparently unaware that the clip had omitted Sherrod's remark about having learned from her mistake.
Why the rush? Shall we blame the "24 hour news cycle"? I think it's more about a desire to score points, no matter who get hurts in the process. I regard that as unsportsmanlike conduct, and as an ethical lapse. It's an indication that pundits and politicians are ofter unprincipled. --Ed Poor Talk 13:25, 11 November 2010 (EST)
- If you take the view the "footage" was edited to show Shirley in a bad light, you could blame the Conservative media. If you listen to the clapping in the background of her televised story, you'll notice the NAACP/audience approved of her racist attitude, even though she repented in public shortly there after. I blame the NAACP for race baiting that back fired. The White House desperate to control news cycles, acted swiftly and stupidly. The Pigford settlement that Shirley is involved with has become a scam of epic proportions. She is not so innocent of a person. My two cents. --Jpatt 14:04, 11 November 2010 (EST)
- How did the video come into Briebart's hands? This question needs to be addressed. Was Briebart set up? did Briebart take the bait. Seems Briebart's enemies (from the White House, NAACP, and CNN on down) were ready to pounce. Rob Smith 15:40, 11 November 2010 (EST)
- I read that Coulter says Breitbart was setup. I don't know where he got the tape. There is some good detail on Shirley which thanks to Breitbart and his tape, exposed Pigford to America. [1] and [2]--Jpatt 21:31, 11 November 2010 (EST)
- The edited version was probably anonymously emailed to Briebart by the same groups that later criticized him. It's not hard to figure out how these things work. Rob Smith 15:51, 12 November 2010 (EST)

How to write this article
Start with the initial reports about the speech. Who described it as racist? Was any mention made about when Sherrod encountered the white farmer? Did anyone think the encountered occurred while she was a federal employee?
