Palanquin

A palanquin, also known as a sedan chair, was a historical form of transport.
Consisting of a chair or platform, sometimes fully enclosed from the weather, it was carried by two or more bearers. It was therefore a form of transport reserved only for the rich or powerful. Many cultures also used palanquins for ceremonial or religious reasons, either to signify the status of the dignitary, or because some pagan religions did not allow the priests' feet to touch the ground.
