Lobbying

Lobbying is the activity of trying to influence how a legislator votes, usually by meeting with him or his staff to present arguments on one side of the issue. The lobbying of Congress is a billion-dollar industry, whereby companies and interest groups pay billions of dollars to "lobbyists" to advocate one side of an issue.
