Legal philosophies

There are competing legal philosophies with respect to decisions about interpretation of the U.S. Constitution and other laws. They can be grouped into two categories: "law without values" and "law with values":

Law without values

• originalism
• textualism
• strict constructionism

Law with values

• conservatism - when conservative values are applied
• critical legal studies - when liberal ideologies are applied
