Katamari Damacy (katamari damashii) is a unique Japanese video game released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2 by Namco.

Story

One day, the King of all Cosmos was drunk after a party and, in the midst of his drunken revelry, accidentally destroys every star in the sky, even the moon. Realizing his mistake, the King tells his pint-sized son, the Prince of all Cosmos, to roll up ordinary household objects on a special ball called a katamari with the intent of turning them into the lost stars.

Gameplay

Katamari Damacy is a rather unique game. It has a third-person point of view. No buttons are used in the gameplay, all that is needed to roll the katamari are the two analog sticks. These controls are rather reminiscent of an earlier Namco game, Pac-Man. The player maneuvers the Prince, who is controlling the katamari, to pick up various household objects, foods, toys, animals, and even humans, to replace the lost stars and the moon. The uniqueness of this game earned a lot of critical acclaim for this game.

Sequels

The game was followed by We Love Katamari for the PS2 in 2004, Me and My Katamari for the PSP in 2006, and Beautiful Katamari for the XBox 360 in 2009.
