Jim Ryun

Jim Ryun (born 1947) is a former track athlete and politician who, for several years in the 1960s and 1970s, held the world record for the fastest mile run. His fastest mile time was 3:51. He also served Kansas in the US House of Representatives as a Republican from 1997 to 2007. He was elected in 1997 to fill the vacancy after the resignation of United States Representative Sam Brownback. He lost his bid for a sixth term to Democratic challenger Nancy Boyda, but intends to challenge Boyda for his seat back. Ryun is an Evangelical Christian.
