Inlet

An inlet is a smaller, narrow body of water reaching inland from a larger body. They can vary in size from small coves to large bays and other bodies of water such as Green Bay in Lake Michigan, San Francisco Bay, and Puget Sound. Any body of water large enough to be called a gulf or a sea is usually too big to be termed an "inlet", even if it is mostly surrounded by land (such as the Mediterranean Sea).
