Cape Verde Islands

Cape Verde (Republica de Cabo Verde), familiarly called the cape Verde Islands, is a nation and archipelago in the mid Atlantic Ocean west of Senegal. It has a land area of 1,557 square miles (4,033 sq km) and a population of 400,000. The capital is Praia.
The islands were colonised by Portugal in the 15th century and gained independence in 1975.
