Black Elk Speaks (published: 1932) is a the story of Lakota Sioux medicine man (Holy man), Nicholas Black Elk, telling a bit of his life on the reservation, his memory of Wounded Knee, and his spirituality focusing mostly on his visions of the world to come. It was written by John Niehardt. It is a popular book in American highschools to introduce students to the views and ideas of Native Americans.
