A bezoar was an ancient medicine. It was a calcium or selenium stone taken from stomach of an animal such as a goat and given to a human medicinally to cure poisoning. Bezoars are generally no longer considered a valid form of treatment, although in some cases doctors use similar medicines. The calcium provided absorption properties similar to those found in modern anti-poison agents.
